Check out the first edition of the The Beaumont Enterprise's new column, The Beaumont Book Beat. The column is (and will be) written by the department's own Katie Hoerth.
The Beaumont Book Beat: Week of November 16 | The Examiner When you first open The Shoeshine Boy, you’ll be pulled into the Texas/Mexico borderlands in the 1920s, a world of cartels, violence and poverty. The Shoeshine Boy will keep you questioning what’s real, what’s imagined, and ultimately, what it means to be human.

This week's featured alumni is Salena Parker. During her time at Lamar, Salena took classes in literature, writing, and rhetoric. She also received many opportunities to work in the Writing Center, as a teaching assistant to several of our talented faculty, teach in our first year writing program, and be part of a university grant. After graduating in August, Salena moved to Waco and now works as an instructor at Texas State Technical College. Her future plans include a Ph.D. and possibly teaching in Western Europe.
