Let’s all say. “Happy first day of winter to the rock hopper penguins!” while we enjoy the first day of summer. Our star is directly over the Tropic of Cancer today meaning it will be the highest in the sky at celestial noon in the northern hemisphere. The lowest in the sky for our rock hopper friends. So…. Bathing suit or parka? That depends on which side of the equator you reside.

This morning the Blue Ghost spacecraft successfully landed on the moon, only the second time a commercial company has achieved this amazing accomplishment, this photo shows the shadow of the lander on the moon and that dot in the sky is planet Earth, congratulations to the and teams that made it happen!

It’s going to be a busy week at the Planet! We are growing our Medicago truncatula from the Australian Simple Seeds Project. This plant is growing right now on the International Space Station so our plants are growing next to our ISS Above live video monitor. Though we were unable to participate in the actual Exolab (link in comments) experiment, our students will be collecting our data here. Thank you Ted Tegami and Liam Kennedy for your help!
