Dear Charger Families,
Another month of the school year is gone, baby! How many sicknesses have your kids brought home? Covid? The Flu? I thought my kids were fine until I caught what they had and got laid out for a few days. No fever, but bronchitis. It’s so fun to have kids in public school, am I right? Okay, okay, all jokes aside, let’s get into it.
Our first topic: car rider end of day pick up. How long does it take? I am a parent in the car rider line every single day. I get in line around 3:15, and I get home between 3:40 - 3:55. If you are a parent in the pick up line, you will not be expected to get out of your car and retrieve your student. However, you WILL be expected to physically go inside once there is no longer a line. This year we have 220 vehicles in the pick up line. The line itself seems to take 30ish minutes once the doors open. It could be a shorter line, if you show up a bit after 3:15. I have wondered if experimentation is warranted because gas is EX-pensive this year!
Single teacher, or self contained, classrooms will no longer exist at Regina Howell. Some two team teachers have become three team teachers. A new trio will exist in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes. Mrs Pham, Mushanga, and Sells Johnson is the new trio in 3rd grade. Mrs Desormeaux, Laird, and Thomas is the new trio in 4th grade. Mrs Bonds, Walker, and Calmese is the new trio in 5th grade. The homeroom teacher will not change. The only thing changing is the work load for those teachers that used to handle self contained classes. They will only have to prep one subject per day, rather than the previous three. I hear the sighs of relief from my laptop.
Are you at all curious about how this trio system is going to work? Is there a teacher now on your kid’s schedule that you’ve never met before? Come to the Open House September 29th and see for yourself! Meet all of the teachers you’ve only been hearing about. You’ll get to feel what your kid’s daily schedule feels like, and take a walk in their shoes.
It’s about that time where approved volunteers will be needed. Are you an approved volunteer? You don’t want to find out the day of the event. It can take up to a month for the background check to come through. Do it online on bmtisd.com. Do it now from your phone or computer!
Lastly, let’s talk about Men in Green. What’s that? Oh, it’s the popcorn guys. Your kids will know what I’m talking about, go ahead and verify it with them. We need to find some for this year. If your kids looked forward to popcorn at school, harass dad into volunteering to become a Man in Green! Okay, don’t actually harass the men. But without them, the delicious popcorn days won’t be able to happen. They of course need to be an approved volunteer, and a member of the PTA.
Let’s hope the weather will get cooler, and school will continue to be awesome. Until next month chargers!
