Madison, a member of NEHS, completed a service project cleaning up the beach. She chose to clean up the beach as her service project because she cares about the environment. When she sees trash on the beach, she doesn’t want it to end up in the ocean to hurt the sea animals. It is unfair to sea animals that people leave their trash when they leave the beach. She learned that people need to be more aware of their impact on the environment. Leaving trash at the beach is more damaging than people think. For example, sea turtles eat jellyfish, and if a plastic bag is left at the beach and ends up in the ocean, it will look like a jellyfish, and a sea turtle will eat it, and could possibly die. While cleaning up the beach, Madison picked up over 5 and a half pounds of trash.
