Beaufort MMA is Beaufort, SC’s first and only Mixed Martial Arts Studio. We train students to protect themselves and their families, instill important Character Traits, and hone skills for Competition. Beaufort MMA began in March of 1997 as McCullough Submission Fighting. The founder, Will McCullough opened the gym due to demand from friends and students of private lessons he had been giving in hi

s garage. The curriculum he put together came to be called Zanshindo and focused on learning the techniques so well that they became second nature or muscle memory. In a self-defense situation, you don’t have much time to think, you can only react. So Will developed his curriculum as a way to build reaction based martial arts that covered self defense from standing, the takedown and on the ground. In its early days, McCullough Submission Fighting became 1 of only a handful of martial arts centers across the US to be officially endorsed by the Ultimate Fighting Championships. In 2003, the gym was passed on to a few of Will’s top students and the name was changed to Beaufort Martial Arts Academy. The curriculum and instruction stayed the same, but more focus was added towards competition. A fight team was developed and students of Beaufort MMA have been in competitions across the nation. In 2014, the business officially became Beaufort MMA and added new classes including USA Boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The same self-defense training is always present even though many new styles and classes have been introduced. We teach mixed martial arts (MMA) and self-defense to all age groups and experience levels. Our students range from 3 years old to 50 years old and above and from brand new martial artists to seasoned competitors. Join us May 9th for a seminar with at from 1-4pm. This is a gi BJJ seminar so bring your gi or rent one for the seminar. We also will have gis for sale. The seminar will cost $100 but we will have discounts for members and moms can join us for $75. Happy Mothers' Day!!

Come to The Foundry on April 17th for Live Fights! Beaufort hasn't had a live boxing event in years, but this spring, we bring it back with amateur matches from local boxers. We will also feature exhibition matches from advanced amateurs and pro fighters, so you don't want to miss this event. We will have limited seating, so buy your tickets before they sell out!

Tomorrow for Halloween, we will not have our standard Open Mat at 10:30am. Instead, we will have BJJ grappling matches starting at 1:30pm and Boxing Matches at 2:00pm. The Foundry will be hosting a harvest festival from 12pm to 4pm so please come with your family to enjoy the event and invite your friends as well!

This Labor Day, we will not have normally scheduled classes since will be closing at 3pm. We will however offer a free open mat for all styles of training to meet up and spar, grapple or drill techniques. Please share this with your friends from other gyms that might like to join you for a few matches. This class is open to all gyms and affiliations at no cost. We hope to see you there.

Coming Saturday at 12pm --- Join Noel Poff for Integrative Stretching - A blend of Hatha yoga, PNF stretching, Rolf movement, and self-myofascial release put together in a seamless practice targeted towards specific mobility goals. Each practice involves a flow of postures, movements, stretches, and rolls with a unique focus. Be prepared to unwind both body and mind! The cost of this session is $20.
