The Nebraska 4‑H Project Showcase celebrates the skills youth develop through 4‑H project work. Today's highlighted projects focus on learning new skills! Clara, a 4-H member from Gage County, wanted to celebrate America’s 250th birthday by creating a patriotic T-shirt to model at the Gage County Fair. This project was a learning experience for Clara as she learned to use a sewing machine, measure fabric, apply iron-on materials, and sew decorative stitches while building her patience and attention to detail. “Taking my time and not giving up when something was hard showed me that I can make something myself and gave me confidence when I had to model in front of a judge and others.” Learn more about project work in 4-H at https://4h.unl.edu/resources/projects!

The Nebraska 4‑H Project Showcase celebrates the skills youth develop through 4‑H project work. Today's highlighted projects focus on Family and Heritage! Ryker from Gage County designed a wooden American flag. Ryker wanted to honor his great-grandfather, an American Vietnam veteran, and celebrate America’s 250th birthday. “Creating this flag helped me better understand the values of patriotism, service, and respect, and it reminded me of the sacrifices made by those who serve our nation.” Learn more about project work in 4-H at https://4h.unl.edu/resources/projects!

Flooding can cause lasting damage to lawns, trees, and gardens by depriving roots of oxygen and introducing contaminants. After flood waters recede, avoid traffic on wet soils, monitor plants for stress, and discard flooded vegetable crops. Patience is key—some flood damage may take years to appear.

Discover & Design | Tree Knot Clay Impressions 🌳
This tree knot exploration offers children a fun, hands-on way to connect with nature. By feeling the different textures on tree bark, children will improve their tactile awareness and fine motor skills. This activity not only builds sensory skills but also fosters curiosity about the natural world and the wonders trees provide.

Book Recommendation: Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert

This story helps children explore the life cycle of a leaf and learn more about nature.

The four-session online series will be held Nov. 9, 12, 16 and 19 from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. CT.

Fundamentals of Feeding the Cow is designed to help producers better understand the nutritional needs of beef cows and how those needs change throughout the production cycle. Participants will learn how to evaluate available feed resources, compare alternatives and develop feeding strategies that meet cow requirements while managing costs.

The series comes as drought conditions and higher hay prices are prompting some producers to take a closer look at available forage supplies and consider alternative feeds. Knowing a cow’s nutrient requirements — and how to accurately compare feeds based on nutritional value and cost — can help producers determine which options make the most sense for their operations.

The series will cover four key areas:
· Understanding how a cow’s nutrient requirements change throughout the production cycle;
· Reading and interpreting feed test analyses and feed tags;
· Comparing feed options and determining the best buy; and
· Developing cost-effective, year-round feeding plans.

Registration is $65 and includes a notebook of Nebraska Extension resources. Participation is limited to 40 people, and registration is due Oct. 26.
