💰 Financial Literacy in Action!

Today, our Cass County CEO members joined the Brown Schuyler CEO group to hear from Rich Eckert, President of Beardstown Savings and Board Chair of Cass County CEO.

Rich presented the first of six financial literacy lessons he’ll be sharing with the group this year. Today’s session provided a broad overview of banking, including the different types of banks and how they differ, how money deposited in banks is insured, and other banking basics that are important for our members to understand as they prepare for their futures.

As always, the conversation went beyond dollars and cents. Rich also shared a few important life lessons, reminding our members about the importance of making a good first impression and why we should never judge a book by its cover.

We appreciate Rich sharing his time, knowledge, and experience with both CEO groups, and we look forward to the next five financial literacy lessons throughout the year!

It’s time for another Team Member Tuesday! Here’s Emma….

Hey! I’m Emma Davis, a senior attending Virginia High School. I am the daughter of Beth Jones and John Davis, and the only girl out of the six of us siblings! I’ve been a part of Virginia’s FFA for four years and am now serving as our president this year. I am also involved in NHS. Out of school, you would find me volunteering and working at my church, cooking for the fam, singing, and reading. I am so excited to see where the Cass County CEO program takes me!!

🍂 CEO Members Lending a Hand!

Since the Beardstown football players and cheerleaders were busy greeting the elementary students this morning, our remaining CEO members helped the Fall Fun Festival Committee get ready for this weekend’s festivities in Beardstown!

It was a great opportunity for our members to lend a hand, work together, and see firsthand how much time and effort goes into making a community event happen.

We’re happy to play a small part in getting things ready and are looking forward to a fun weekend in Beardstown! 🍁

It’s Team Member Tuesday! Here’s Addie!

Hello! My name is Georgia Bishop, but I often go by Addie. I am the daughter of Jody Mangold and Adam Turner, and I am a junior at Beardstown Jr./Sr. High School. I am involved in several activities, including girls golf, color guard, student council, Key Club, Spanish Club, and Art Club. I enjoy being involved in my school and community, and I believe being a part of CEO is a great opportunity to learn, grow, and meet new people. I am excited to see what is yet to come.

“What Now?” — A Powerful Lesson from Wade Muller!

We were excited to welcome Wade Muller back to the Cass County CEO classroom today!

Wade challenged our members to think about how they respond to different situations in life. His message centered around two simple words: “What now?”

Bad things are going to happen. Good things are going to happen. Unexpected things are going to happen. But no matter what happens, we get to decide how we respond.

We can choose to move forward, learn, and grow, or we can choose to dwell in doubt and frustration. Ultimately, the choice is ours!

Wade left our members with two challenges:

* The next time something doesn’t go your way, stop and ask yourself, “What now?”
* Make a list of your “WHO” friends — the people you can turn to for help, support, honest feedback, and guidance when you need it.

Wade also shared a couple of reminders that apply to ALL of us. Give grace and forgiveness to those who have wronged you. And value the people in your life who are willing to tell you the truth, even when it’s difficult to hear. Those are often the people who care enough to help you grow.

Thank you, Wade, for another meaningful visit and for challenging our members to take ownership of their responses, surround themselves with the right people, and keep moving forward!

🌟 A Morning of Inspiration with Cass County CEO! 🌟

This morning, we had the pleasure of welcoming Julia Albarracin, Professor of Political Science at Western Illinois University and Executive Director of Western Illinois DREAMers.

Julia shared her incredible journey with our CEO members. Born and raised in Argentina, she began her career as an attorney, earned a master’s degree in business, owned her own corporation, and worked in public administration before making her way to Florida to pursue her Ph.D. in Political Science.

Her journey wasn’t without some trial and error, and she shared some valuable advice with our members: Follow your passion, but be a little practical along the way! She reminded them that doubts and obstacles are inevitable, but keeping your ultimate goal in mind will help you push through those challenges.

Our members asked a variety of thoughtful questions and quickly discovered just how passionate and motivated Julia is about her work. They also learned that she is well-traveled and considers her parents to be her biggest role models.

👏 A huge thank-you to Julia for making the early morning drive to share her experiences, insights, and encouragement with our group! We truly appreciate your time and the valuable lessons you shared with our future entrepreneurs!

It’s time for another Team Member Tuesday! Here is Esme…

Hi, my name is Esme Anderson, and I am currently a junior at Virginia High School. I participate in many extracurricular activities including National Honor Society, student council, cross country, and dance. During my summers I lifeguard at the Virginia Pool and I really enjoy it. Our Cass County CEO members have been brainstorming, discussing, and narrowing down their ideas for this year’s Class Business.

They’ve officially narrowed the field to:

Now comes the hard part—digging deeper into each idea, determining what’s realistic and profitable, and deciding which direction to take!

There are still plenty of decisions to make, but it’s exciting to see the ideas beginning to take shape.

🎤 Guest Speaker Spotlight: Mandy Lyons

On Wednesday, the Cass County CEO class welcomed Mandy Lyons, who shared her career journey in nursing and the many opportunities that have shaped her path.

Mandy began her career as an LPN before continuing her education to earn her RN degree, and RN Masters degree. Throughout her career, she has worked in a variety of roles, including the emergency room and intensive care units, and she helped build the Trauma program at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Today, Mandy serves as the Assistant Clerkship Director/Nurse Educator in the Department of General Surgery at SIU School of Medicine.

One message came through loud and clear during Mandy’s visit: find a job you love to do. Her passion for her work was evident as she shared her experiences with the class.

Mandy also encouraged our CEO members to:
• Find people at work they can lean on and learn from
• Be honest when they don’t know something
• Be willing to step outside of their comfort zone

Thank you, Mandy, for taking the time to share your experiences, advice, and passion for your career with our CEO members. We appreciate you investing in our students! 💙
