Fellow classmates, it is with deepest regret that I inform you of the passing of our classmate, Stephen Spencer. His obituary follows:

Stephen Charles Spencer, 75, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and formerly of Beardstown, Illinois, died on June 21, 2025. He was born on July 3, 1949, the son of Dr. Robert Andrew and Magdalena "Billie" Billmayer Spencer. Steve graduated from Beardstown High School in 1967. He then attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1971. He married Pamela Spencer, a fellow Beardstown native, on July 10 of that same year.

Together, Pam and Steve spent 46 wonderful years enjoying vacations all over the world and raising their two children until she passed away on January 30, 2018. After her passing, Steve struggled to find happiness without her by his side, but he deeply loved his kids and found joy in the visits with his grandchildren, who brought laughter and light into his life. He loved listening to St. Louis Cardinals games and took great pride in being a loyal Fighting Illini fan.

Finding purpose in his work, Steve enjoyed a successful career in electric utility consulting that lasted for several decades. He held numerous leadership roles at multiple firms, which required him to travel and live away from home for extended periods. St. Charles, Missouri, served as their home base during their children's early years, followed by Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where he lived until his passing. Despite the challenges of being apart, he always prioritized his family’s well-being, knowing that his hard work and sacrifices would provide them with a better future.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one sister, Dianne Carol Spencer; three brothers, Robert Andrew Spencer, Jr., Dr. John Spencer, and Timothy Spencer; sister-in-law, Pat Crudup; and many close friends. He will be deeply missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Leonna Spencer; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Aaron Facchinello; grandchildren, Jack and Isabella Facchinello; cousin, Cindy Farmer (husband Bill); brother-in-law, Chris Caldwell (wife Melinda); brother David (wife Maria) Spencer; sister, Judy (husband Rick) Deaton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will meet with friends at a remembrance ceremony to be held at Beardstown City Cemetery on a later date. Memorials have been suggested to the American Heart Association.

Fellow classmates, it is with deepest regret that I inform you of the passing of our classmate, Janet Sue Hale (King). Her obituary follows:

Janet Sue Hale
May 7, 1949 — August 30, 2025
Janet Sue Hale, 76 of Beardstown, died Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born May 7, 1949, the daughter of Bill B. and Rhoda Willerton King. She married Roger Hale on July 6, 1968 and he survives in Beardstown.

She is also survived by two daughters Sherry Rous (husband Brian) of Bloomington and Tari Hale of Beardstown; four grandchildren Robert Coats, and Caitlyn, Ethan, and Lily Rous; a sister Linda Looker of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother in infancy, Robert Michael King, a great-nephew, Cameron Looker, brothers-in-law, Donald Looker, and Royal Hale and a sister-in-law, Holly Hale.

Sue graduated from Beardstown High School in 1967 and later earned an associate's degree from Lincoln Land Community College. Over the years, she owned a daycare and worked at the State of Illinois, the Beardstown Glove Factory, and IGA. She retired from her secretarial role at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, where she was a devoted member, taught catechism, and Sunday school. Sue's faith guided her actions and relationships. She firmly believed in the power of prayer and expressed gratitude for all who prayed for her. Sue loved crocheting and sewing, watching Gunsmoke and Wheel of Fortune, and listening to Elvis. She will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to her faith, and the love she shared with family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 5, 2025 at First Evangelical Church in Beardstown. Burial will follow in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Fellow classmates, it is with deepest regret that I inform you of the passing of our classmate, Carlos Treadway. His obituary follows:
Carlos Eugene Treadway, Jr, 76, of Beardstown, died surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Beardstown Nursing and Rehab after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born January 31, 1949, in Beardstown, the son of Carlos Eugene Treadway, Sr., and Mary Katherine Buck Treadway. He married his high school sweetheart Susan McGovern on June 20, 1971, and she survives in Beardstown.

He is also survived by his two children, Christopher (wife Marisa) Treadway of Portland, OR, and Erica Treadway of Springfield; his granddaughter Madison Treadway of Portland, OR; his sister Carlene (husband Tom) Alcorn of Beardstown; his sister-in-law Mollie Fesser (husband Don) of Farmersville; and his niece and nephews Jeremy Alcorn, Kory Alcorn, Aaron ( wife Jana) Fesser, and Alyssa Fesser (fiancé Jack). His love and commitment to his family were unwavering. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Adam Fesser.

Carlos graduated from Beardstown High School in 1967. After spending a year at Western Illinois University, he honorably served in the United States Navy as a radio technician. He worked at Bohn Aluminum until 1989, then moved to Excel, and ultimately retired from Cargill in 2017.

Carlos was an active member of the Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007 and served as a trustee at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. He enjoyed yard work, mowed at Treadway Cemetery, and loved fishing with his friend Raymond Anderson. In his younger years, he was an accomplished Treadway Marine team bowler and coached Little League Baseball.. A devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Illinois, Carlos enjoyed assembling puzzles and traveling to Hawaii and Portland to visit family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, with Pastor Mel Nielsen officiating. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM Friday at the memorial home.

Fellow classmates, it is with deepest regret that I inform you of the passing of our classmate, Dale Robinson. His obituary follows:

Dale Edward Robinson, 73, of Beardstown passed away Monday, September 18, 2023, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield. He was born November 21, 1949, at Schmitt Memorial Hospital in Beardstown, the son of Harry Edward Robinson and Charlotte (Ann Coy) Robinson.

Dale is preceded in death by both parents and his sister Judy (Robinson) Tankersley.

Dale was a lifelong citizen of Beardstown and worked for Oscar Meyer, and later worked at St. Anne’s as a resident caretaker where he eventually retired. Dale loved the outdoors. If he wasn’t working, you would probably find him fishing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal, Blues, and Rams fan. Dale also loved anything and everything NASCAR.

Military rights will be conducted at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday September 30,, at Beardstown City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Beardstown VFW. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements. Condolences can be left online at www.sagerfuneralhome.com.

fellow classmates, it is with deepest regret that I inform you of the passing of our classmate, Ruth Ann (Smith) Martin. Her obituary:

March 15, 1949 — September 9, 2023

Ruth Ann Martin, 74 of Chandlerville, died on Saturday September 9, 2023 at Havana Health.

Ruth Ann was born in Beardstown, the daughter of Virgil and Emma Gene Smith. She married Eddie Martin of Chandlerville on September 26, 1986.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Virgil Fred Smith.

She is survived by her brother David Smith of Beardstown; her husband Eddie; her children Lisa Lee, (husband Brian Cassidy) of Huntsville, Texas, Bridget Wilcox of North Zulch, Texas, Christopher (Andy) Wilcox of North Zulch, Texas, Robin Peacock (husband Tom) of Gretna, Virginia and Susan Martin of Springfield, Illinois; 14 grandkids; and 13 great grandkids.

Ruth Ann was a graduate of Beardstown High School. Over the years she worked as a CNA and Cashier.

Thank you, to the staff at Havana Health Care Center and Compassus Hospice for taking great care of mom.

Fellow classmates, it is with deepest regret that I inform you of the passing of our classmate, Bob Carnahan. His obituary follows:
Robert Carnahan
October 22, 1948 — June 16, 2023
Robert Harvey Carnahan, age 74 of Eminence, MO, died Friday, June 16, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.

He was born October 22, 1948 in Beardstown, the son of Benjamin Franklin Carnahan and Margaret Elizabeth Bell Carnahan. He married Patty Pherigo and they divorced. He later married Dana DuRall Carnahan and they also divorced.

He is survived by two children Rebecca (husband Kris) Antle of Willow Springs, MO and Simon Carnahan of Effingham; two grandchildren Dalton Lee Coil and Desiree Coil; two great grandchildren, and one brother Ben (companion Ellen) Carnahan. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Margaret Ann Rice and Elizabeth "Jan" Ring, and his twin brother Thomas George Carnahan.

Robert graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1967. After High School he honorably served in the United States Navy as a boiler tender on the USS Dubuque. After being discharged he obtained his Bachelors in Horticulture for Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He loved the outdoors and was self-employed for the majority of his life known as Carnahan Landscape and Design. He also worked for Millikin University as a ground's keeper of 22 acres of land for many years. After Millikin, he worked for Agracel Inc. as a ground's keeper until his retirement. Bob was of the Methodist faith and spent most of his time attending Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham and Industry United Methodist Church. He had a passion for all things outdoors, camping, canoeing, fishing, and hunting. He also loved to build birdhouses and feeders to attract wildlife. His lifelong love and knowledge of plants, rose bushes, shrubs, trees and grasses allowed many beautiful spaces to be enjoyed by all.

A memorial service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the Beardstown City Cemetery. There will not be a visitation. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Fellow classmates, it is with deepest regret that I inform you of the passing of our classmate Tom Carnahan, in Galesburg Illinois. His obituary follows:
Thomas George Carnahan, 73, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away on July 11, 2022.
He was born October 22, 1948 in Beardstown, Illinois to Benjamin F. and Margaret E. (Bell) Carnahan. Married in 1973, he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorris Carter Carnahan. Together, they had two sons, Jeremy (Michele) Carnahan of Normal, Illinois and Joseph Carnahan of Chicago, Illinois.
Also surviving is his twin brother, Robert Carnahan of Eminence, Missouri; brother Benjamin Carnahan of Oakwood, Illinois; granddaughters, Annabelle and Sabrina Carnahan of Normal, Illinois; and his cat named "Boo."
His parents and sisters, Margret (Robert) Rice and Jan (Merle) Ring, preceded him in death.
Tom worked at Maytag and Caterpillar and retired from Builders Supply in Galesburg, Illinois. He was of the Methodist faith and belonged to the Dahinda Fire Department for many years. He served in the United States Navy as a sailor on the USS Dubuque. Tom was known as the "man who fixed everything." His greatest joy was his family and helping others. His wish was for others to pass that joy on.
Private family visitation will be held at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. No public services are planned. Memorials may be made to Western Illinois Animal Rescue, Monmouth, Illinois or the Dahinda Fire Department.

This afternoon I got a call from Bob Carnahan, to inform me that his brother Tom is in hospice and is expected to live 2-3 weeks. Tom is in Galesburg and his wife is with him. Please keep Tom and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sadly, I must inform my classmates of the passing of Crystal Bartlett (Wilson) at her home in Jacksonville, Illinois on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
She was born January 1, 1949 in Beardstown, the daughter of George David, Sr and Virginia Quinn Wilson.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1-2 PM Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown.
