The annual Tsunami Bowl is a GO in 2023!
Official volunteer sign ups are here! As you know, this event could not be possible without our amazing volunteers supporting this program and our students.
This year's competition is a bit different due to the Consortium for Ocean Leadership dissolution this fall and NOSB Nationals moving to the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in 2024.
To allow them time to regain and restructure the program, they've decided to not host Nationals in 2023, however they didn't dissuade us from hosting our own regional bowls. It wasn't surprising when our students, teams, and coaches highly encouraged and requested us to host the Tsunami Bowl anyways! So thanks to the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, we were able to do just that. This also allows us a tiny bit of flexibility on the schedule, so we will be hosting the Tsunami bowl in Seward on March 3-5th, 2023. We would love to see your smiling face again.
There are two opportunities to get involved:
One, we consider our Weekend Warriors. These are our weekend helpers that provide hands on set up, transportation, errands, supply errands etc. If you live in Seward, this might be right down your stream.
Second, if you are more interested in the educational aspect of the competition, please consider volunteering to be a Quiz Official. These people are the rock stars in the competition rooms running the quiz bowl rounds. You do not have to be a scientist to do these jobs, but will be required to attend 1-2 in training sessions (virtually, if needed!).
We can't wait to see you again this year. Students and coaches have been working very hard to prepare for another engaging ocean science competition!
Please email us if you don't know where you'd fit in best. [email protected]
Please forward to all your colleagues and friends as well. Access to STEM education for our Alaskan students is crucial!
