Augie plays “Surfboard Boogie” from the Jazz, Rags and Blues collection by Martha Mier. Augie’s family listens to jazz/blues at home and has even taken him to some live jazz clubs—- so he is familiar with what “swinging” sounds like.

So much fun to listen to right?

Here is 4th grader, Augie, playing “Surfboard Boogie” by Martha Mier from her Jazz, Rags and Blues collection.

A student needs to be listening to jazz/blues to be able to swing like this, and you can tell from Augie’s introduction that he was inspired by his grandma playing the blues! 🥰

He loves jazz and syncopated rhythms, so he’s well on his way! Augie has been studying with me since Kindergarten and earned his year 5 certificate for dedication and perseverance this year. 🎹🎵♥️👏
