Juniors had a great lunch workshop on Thursday with University of Maryland Assistant Director of Admissions Robert Olivieri. He brought 3 full (redacted) student application files, with recommendation letters, transcripts, essay, etc. and walked students through the process of deciding whether to admit, defer, waitlist, or deny. Mr. Olivieri is our UMD app reader for FMS applications, and it was so helpful to get his insights on how admissions decisions are made.

Juniors had a great lunch workshop on Shushan Purim with our wonderful University of Maryland rep Robert Olivieri! He brought 3 full (redacted) student application files, with recommendation letters, transcripts, essay, etc. and walked students through the process of deciding whether to admit, defer, waitlist, or deny. The students got some great insight into how admissions decisions are made.

It was a rainy day at the Technion. Chaim Roth is a really good sport -- this is a huge campus to tour! Technion's campus was beautiful, with state-of-the-art laboratories everywhere. Some important facts:
--Technion is highly selective, but offers a 1-year mechina program to prepare students for matriculation. An alternative to mechina is 5 specific science/math APs or 3 entrance exams.
--Technion's international school offers three majors in English: civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and a new electrical engineering major. Many students start in the international school and then transfer into the regular Technion program. Mechina for the international program is approx. 3 months.
--Most students choose one area of study. Unusual to double major. The workload is intense.
--Nice dati community, with an on-campus shul and bet midrash. All official campus events are kosher.

Had an incredible day at IDC with Koby Geduld and our favorite IDC rep and director emeritus Wendy Keter. IDC is beautiful, friendly, and full of students who are genuinely happy to be there. Some highlights:

-- IDC is a 3-yr B.A., all in English, with 9 programs to choose from.
-- Students come from over 80 countries!
-- The lab/experiential options are AMAZING. Check out the pictures of their campus radio station and TV station, both broadcasting around the clock. Classes for these fields take place in the stations.
-- Very active JLIC and Hillel, with over 120 students at Shabbat dinner
-- Eye-opening things I heard from current students:
1) I love coming to school each day.
2) I wish this was 4 years, and not 3. It's that good. (Really!)

Had an amazing tour of Bar Ilan University with Jennifer Brenis! Learned so much about their different programs and about college in Israel in general. Some interesting tidbits:

--Bar Ilan is the only university in Israel where you can get your tests translated into English (4 per semester your first year, 2 per semester after that).
--The science buildings were unbelievable. Humanities buildings (ex. education, communication) still have the '70s look.
--They have a kollel program for men and women where you can get paid -- and receive college credit -- for Jewish learning.
--You must double major, and cannot minor.
--Really nice community on campus, and Givat Shmuel as an area is a wonderful place for Anglo college students and young professionals.
