There was a special energy on the Baytown Christian Academy campus on Wednesday as BCA families gathered for our annual Welcome Back event.
The parking lot was full. The chapel was packed. Hallways and classrooms were filled with students reconnecting with friends, parents meeting teachers, and families walking schedules and preparing for the beginning of another school year.
In fact, there were more people on campus last night than we have seen at a Welcome Back event in several years — and the numbers help explain why.
BCA begins the 2026–2027 school year with 318 students, up from 253 last year. That represents an increase of 65 students — nearly 26% growth in just one year.
And those students will be greeted by some new faces in the classrooms as well.
Following the retirement of two beloved longtime educators, Dr. Holmes and Mr. Helzer, BCA welcomes 11 new teachers and two new teacher's aides this year. Last night's event gave students and parents their first opportunity to meet many of those new faculty and staff members and begin building the relationships that will shape the year ahead.
Newly appointed Head of School Mrs. Andrea Case welcomed the BCA family and opened the evening with encouraging words about the future of the school. She challenged students, parents, faculty, and staff to come together and write a new chapter in the life of Baytown Christian Academy.
That challenge seems especially appropriate this year.
With 65 additional students, 11 new teachers, two new teacher's aides, and many new families joining the BCA community, this year brings an extraordinary opportunity to introduce a new generation of Bulldogs to the culture that makes BCA special.
That culture is about more than classrooms, athletics, activities, or even academic achievement. It is found in the relationships between teachers and students, the partnership between families and the school, the friendships formed in hallways and on athletic fields, and a Christian community committed to growing and serving together.
Last night was the beginning of building those relationships.
There were familiar faces and many new ones. There were hugs between friends who hadn't seen each other during the summer, introductions between teachers and families, and plenty of conversations about classes, schedules, athletics, activities, and everything the new school year will bring.
Growth brings change, and change brings opportunity.
As BCA begins this new school year, we are grateful for those like Dr. Holmes and Mr. Helzer who helped write important chapters in the school's story. At the same time, we enthusiastically welcome the students, families, teachers, and staff who are joining that story for the first time.
318 students. A growing faculty. New leadership. New families. And one BCA community.
The next chapter is ready to be written.
