Our political system is in such demise, we have to fake it- we have to roast each other and we hide from celebrities and Jesus. I am not happy. With anyone.

Studies show that the veteran population is 2x more likely to become chronically homeless than other American groups. There are many reasons veterans make up such a large percentage of the homeless population. Contributing factors include long periods of unemployment, foreclosure, mental illness, and poverty.

Here are some numbers to back up the contributing factors:

Over 968,000 veterans lived in poverty in the last year.
20,000 veterans with government sponsored mortgages lost their homes in 2010.
76% of homeless veterans experience alcohol, drug, or mental health issues.
30.2% of veterans ages 18-24 are unemployed.

Not a moment goes by when I don't think of you Mom. 19 years you said goodbye. I remember the call, James Douglas Montgomery holding me as I fell to my knees. Your grandsons have your mischief, your eye for "good food" like fried fish and mac & cheese. When I get out to walk a trail, it reminds me of when you walked from our home in Wantagh to the Cherrywood "plaza". We went to Whalen's and you bought us candy. The walks were always way too long I thought, but now, I walk for you, your tenacity, your smiles and of course your brattiness. I want you to tell me if I've been a good Mom, a cook Cook, but more importantly, a great dancer to Frank Sinatra & Tom Jones! I lost you on this day but your heart is found deep in my soul. Love & Miss You.
