Joshua Beckford, from Tottenham, London, was born with high-functioning autism. From a very young age, his father, Knox Daniel, realized his son was different. When Joshua was only 10 months old, he could already recognize letters and numbers on a keyboard. His father said, "I started telling him what the letters on the keyboard were and I realized that he was remembering and could understand."

By the time Joshua was between two and three years old, he was reading fluently using phonics. He had also started speaking Japanese and later learned some Mandarin.

In 2011, Knox heard about a special University of Oxford program for gifted children between the ages of 8 and 13. Believing in his son's abilities, he wrote to the university and asked them to consider six-year-old Joshua. The university accepted him, making him the youngest person ever to join the program. He later earned distinctions in both Philosophy and History.

Joshua has since shared his dreams through a TEDx talk in Vienna. He said he wants to "save the Earth" and "change people's ideas about doing the right things about earth." He hopes to become a neurosurgeon, became the face of a National Autistic Society campaign, and was named a UK National Diversity Positive Role Model in 2017.

When a powerful earthquake struck La Guaira, Venezuela, an apartment building collapsed, trapping Dayana Patiño and her 18-day-old son, Juan David, beneath the rubble of their eighth-floor home. What began as a normal day quickly turned into a desperate fight for survival that lasted for more than 30 hours.

Dayana suffered serious injuries to both of her legs, including a broken knee. Even though she was in pain, she focused on keeping her newborn son alive. She later told ABC News, "The one who gave me the strength not to fall into despair was my son. I kept saying, 'As long as he was alive, I was going to be alive.'"

Outside, rescue teams worked nonstop to search through the collapsed building. Juan David's father, Gerson Trujillo, was not at home when the earthquake happened. As soon as he heard the news, he rushed to the scene and joined neighbors in digging through the rubble, hoping his family was still alive.

During the rescue, workers realized the baby had survived. They carefully pushed a straw through a pipe in the debris so they could give him water while they continued searching. The small act helped keep the little boy alive.

After more than 30 hours, rescuers finally reached Dayana and Juan David. Although Dayana had serious leg injuries, Juan David was found with only minor scratches. Gerson later told BBC News, "It was indescribable. I thought they were gone. And when I saw my son I felt like I was born again." The family believes they survived because they landed on a Bible, and their rescue became a powerful story of hope, courage, and a mother's love.

Sixteen-year-old Keonte Evans was going door to door in Hapeville, Georgia, offering to do yard work. He cut grass, and trimmed hedges to earn money. His goal was to buy school clothes for his five younger siblings before the new school year began.

One neighbor did not know why Keonte was knocking on doors. Believing he might be trespassing, the neighbor called the police and asked for him to be removed.

Officer Eric Colleran responded to the call. After speaking with Keonte, he quickly realized there was no problem. Instead, he found a polite, respectful, and honest teenager who was simply working hard to help his family. Colleran later described Keonte as "polite, respectful and truthful," and was deeply impressed by his work ethic and the reason he was earning money.

Because Officer Colleran also loved video games, he decided to do something special. He collected money with a few friends and bought Keonte a PlayStation 5. They also included a gift card for an online membership so he could start playing right away. Colleran even told Keonte they would soon team up and play games together online.

In a video shared by the Hapeville Police Department, an emotional Keonte hugged Officer Colleran after receiving the surprise. Then, after taking the game console inside, he ran back outside to hug the officer a second time.

Overwhelmed with joy, Keonte said, "Somebody did this for you. The game is so expensive. You can't do anything but be so excited."

Together, they crossed minefields and lived through artillery attacks while trying to reach safety. It was a long and frightening journey, but Liana never gave up. To keep her son calm and give him hope, she kept telling him they were going to meet his favorite WWE star, John Cena.

Those words helped Misha stay positive as they traveled until they finally reached a refugee residence outside Amsterdam. Their remarkable story was later reported by *The Wall Street Journal*.

Just days before Christmas, the Burgoyne family in the Donaldson Run neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, had a holiday surprise they never expected.

During the night of December 18–19, 2024, a barred owl accidentally flew down the chimney of their home. Instead of finding its way back outside, the bird flew through the family's kitchen before making its way into the living room.

Moments later, the owl landed right on top of the family's Christmas tree. As it settled in, it knocked the star off the top of the tree and ended up becoming the new tree topper itself. The unusual sight left the family amazed and created a Christmas memory they would never forget.

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) was called to help rescue the unexpected visitor. Sgt. Spencer Murray arrived at the home and carefully handled the situation. Rather than trying to catch the owl right away, he allowed it to fly around the room until it became tired. Once the bird had calmed down, he gently caught it with a net.

The owl was safely released back into the wild without any injuries.

After the rescue, homeowner Savannah Burgoyne shared how special the experience had been for her family. She told ARLnow, "You don't get to often see nature, like truly wild nature, that up close — so it was a really lovely experience for our family, and also just totally fun."

Following the rescue, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington reminded homeowners to place caps on their chimneys during winter. Doing so helps prevent owls and other wild animals from accidentally entering homes while searching for warm shelter. Christopher Reeve's life changed forever after a horse-riding accident in 1995 left him paralyzed from the neck down. The actor, best known for playing Superman, suddenly faced a future he never imagined. As he struggled to accept what had happened, he felt overwhelmed by fear, sadness, and hopelessness.

Reeve later admitted that he even thought about giving up. He believed his life, and the lives of those around him, had been destroyed. He remembered thinking, "I ruined my life and everybody else's.
