We want to follow up on the message we sent earlier today regarding the report of a possible weapon on campus.

Staff and administration, along with law enforcement, thoroughly investigated the report and followed all safety procedures. At no point was there a real and credible threat to student safety.

We know situations like this can be unsettling, and we appreciate your patience, understanding, and trust as our team worked to ensure the safety of every student and staff member.

Today's events also remind us of the importance of reporting. This situation was brought to our attention because a member of our school community spoke up, and that allowed staff to respond quickly and follow our safety procedures. We want to encourage students and families to continue reporting any concerns. Safe2Tell Colorado (1-877-542-7233 or Safe2Tell.org) is a free, anonymous way to report safety concerns 24/7.

We want to make you aware of two separate situations that occurred at BMS this morning.

Bear on Campus: Before school began, a bear was spotted on or near campus. As a precaution, BMS was placed in Secure status for a short time while we confirmed the bear was no longer in the area. Once it was determined that there was no longer a concern, the Secure status was lifted.

Report of a Weapon: At approximately the same time, we received a report of a possible weapon on campus. Staff and administration immediately responded and followed our safety procedures to investigate the report.

We understand that hearing about either of these situations may be concerning for families. Student and staff safety is our highest priority, and we wanted to communicate with you directly about what occurred this morning.

At this time, both situations are under control, and we believe students are safe at school. Law enforcement will maintain an increased presence on campus as we continue to respond to and investigate the report of a possible weapon. We will provide any additional information or updates as appropriate.
