Saint Stanislaus Marine Science This course is designed to prepare students with real world experiences in the discipline of marine Louis and the Gulf of Mexico.

This course is designed to prepare students with real world experiences in the discipline of marine science. Topics will focus on the physical properties of water, ocean currents, tides, marine ecosystems and life zones, marine flora and fauna, marine ecology and conservation and marine technology. Emphasis will be placed on field work and laboratory work that will focus on sampling methods, water

quality testing and the use of modern technologies to monitor marine life and sedimentation here in the Bay of St. When appropriate, the beach and the pier are used as outdoor classrooms. Students will use seines and cast nets to collect organisms from the Bay. These organisms will be studied in the lab in the students’ aquarium that they must maintain throughout the course. Students will also learn how to properly record and interpret scientific observations and data collected from the field and the lab. Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding and appreciation for the local environment and how anthropogenic activities can affect our ecosystems. Completion of this course in conjunction with exposure to field investigations and laboratory work will prepare young scientists for future study in the fields of Marine and Environmental Science.

Marine Science 2 and our intern crew had an awesome time visiting the SPAT Tech Lab in Wiggins, Mississippi! We learned so much about our local oysters—how they’re grown and why they’re so important to our coast. Huge thank you to everyone there for taking the time to teach us and give us such a great experience! 🦪❤️🐟
