Some days are smooth, some days are harder — either way, we’re rocking it! 🫶

🍎 Back-to-school transitions are here! Sharing this weekend for all of the parents and caregivers preparing for the week ahead. 🫶

A new school year can bring lots of changes—new routines, expectations, people, and environments. For many children, knowing what to expect can make those changes a little easier. Predictability and preparation can be especially helpful for children with autism, but these strategies can benefit all kiddos!

A few ways to prepare at home:

• Practice the routine by getting back into school-day bedtimes, wake-up times, getting dressed, and morning routines.

• Preview what to expect. Talk about their teacher, classroom, drop-off, lunch, and what their school day might look like. If possible, visit or drive by the school beforehand, or look at pictures of the school, classroom, and teacher together.

• Use visual supports such as calendars, checklists, pictures, or visual schedules to help your child know what’s coming next.

• Use books, social stories, and familiar media to start the conversation. Read back-to-school books or social stories, watch school-themed videos, or find school-related episodes of a favorite show. These can be fun, familiar ways to talk about what school may look like and prepare your child for what’s coming.

• Prepare the night before by packing backpacks, choosing clothes, and getting everything ready for the morning.

• Allow time to adjust. New routines take time! Some kiddos may need a little extra patience, support, or downtime as they settle in.

And parents and caregivers—give yourself grace, too. 💙 Back-to-school is an adjustment for you as well. It doesn’t have to be a perfect first day (or first week!) to be a successful one.

Celebrate the little wins along the way! 🌟

We hope all of our kiddos have a wonderful start to the school year. If you need anything, we are here for you! 💙

🤍 This post is all about RBTs!

If you’ve spent any time around ABA therapy, you’ve probably heard us use the term RBT. We thought it would be the perfect opportunity to explain who Registered Behavior Technicians are, what they do, and the important role they play in helping children learn, grow, and thrive.

We hope this gives you a better understanding of the role of an RBT and the impact they have each and every day.

To our incredible RBTs—thank you. Thank you for the patience you show, the relationships you build, the encouragement you give, and the countless hours you spend helping our kiddos learn and grow. Your dedication, compassion, and hard work do not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for each and every one of you. You are such an important part of the Baldwin Behavior Services family, and we truly couldn’t do what we do without you. 🤍

What's a BCBA? 🤍

If you're new to ABA, you may have heard the term BCBA and wondered what it means.

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a master's-level clinician who designs, oversees, and monitors each child's ABA therapy program. BCBAs earn their certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) after completing graduate-level coursework, supervised fieldwork, passing a national certification exam, and maintaining continuing education and ethical standards.

At Baldwin Behavior Services, our BCBA works closely with each child, family, and therapy team to ensure treatment is individualized, meaningful, and effective.

Our BCBA:

✨ Conducts assessments and develops individualized treatment plans.

✨ Works directly with children while introducing new skills and monitoring progress.

✨ Trains and supervises our Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs).

✨ Uses data to make treatment decisions and adjust programming as children grow.

✨ Partners with parents and collaborates with other professionals to support success across all environments.

Our RBTs are the heart of day-to-day therapy. They spend the most direct time with each child, implementing treatment plans, teaching new skills, collecting data, and celebrating every milestone. Together, our BCBA, RBTs, and families work as one team to help every child reach their fullest potential.

We hope this gives you a better understanding of the role of a BCBA. With several new families joining our community, we thought this would be the perfect time to reintroduce the BCBA behind Baldwin Behavior Services. 🤍

If you have questions about ABA or would like to learn more about our services, we'd love to connect!
