Hard work, hands-on learning, and a little fun along the way!

After a full day of learning and operating equipment, our Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology students still had plenty of smiles and laughs to share!

Because when you're doing something you love, there's always room for a little fun at the end of a hardworking day.

Hands-on learning in action at the BAISD Career Center!

Students in our Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology (H.E.T.) program had the opportunity to get behind the controls of a mini excavator, thanks to the generosity of Evans Contracting of Bridgeport!

Both morning and afternoon classes spent time operating the equipment, gaining valuable hands-on experience and building skills that connect classroom learning to real-world careers.

Building stronger math skills, one routine at a time!

Educators from across our region came together at BAISD for a day of learning focused on strengthening math instruction for students in grades 6–12.

Led by Heather Holshoe of Strategic Intervention Solutions (SIS), the training explored practical ways to bring number sense routines into middle and high school classrooms, helping students build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and develop a deeper understanding of math.

We love seeing educators from our local districts learning together, sharing ideas, and bringing new strategies back to their classrooms!

Celebrating independence, confidence, and self-advocacy!

In recognition of White Cane Awareness Day on October 15, three incredible young students took the lead in helping their classmates understand the importance of the white cane!

With support from BAISD Orientation and Mobility Specialist Kim Kernstock and Teacher Consultant for Visual Impairments Kelly Ballard, the students shared how they use their white canes to navigate their surroundings safely and independently.

They proudly demonstrated their skills, answered questions, and even helped their classmates create white cane keychains!

What a wonderful example of students learning from one another! Through their leadership, these students helped build awareness, encourage understanding, and celebrate the importance of independence and self-advocacy.

Fall Conference Presenter Spotlight: Ashley McKeown, M.Ed. & Samantha Hrubiec, M.Ed.!

Strong reading skills build the foundation for lifelong learning, and effective instruction makes all the difference!

We're excited to welcome Ashley McKeown and Samantha Hrubiec from the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) to BAISD's Fall 2026 Conference on November 3!

In their session, "UFLI Foundations Implementation Training," educators will explore practical strategies for teaching foundational reading skills, including lesson routines, monitoring student progress, and adjusting instruction to meet students' needs.

With experience as classroom teachers, reading specialists, and literacy coaches, Ashley and Samantha bring a wealth of knowledge and a shared passion for helping every child become a successful reader.

We're looking forward to the tools, ideas, and hands-on learning they'll bring to educators across our region!

Big milestones start with little moments!

The first few years of a child's life are full of growth, discovery, and learning. When children need a little extra support along the way, early intervention can make a meaningful difference.

Through Early On and early intervention, Bay-Arenac ISD works alongside families with infants and toddlers who may be experiencing developmental delays or disabilities. Our team helps families understand their child's development, build on their strengths, and support learning through everyday moments like playing, reading, and exploring together.

The BAISD Early Childhood Team explored how small shifts in our approach, inviting participation, honoring family choices, and supporting emotional growth, can make a BIG difference for the families we serve. Because sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is listen, recognize strengths, and create opportunities for families to feel heard, valued, and empowered.

We’re excited to bring these ideas back into our work with children and families across Bay and Arenac counties!
