Wishing all students a great school year with classes starting tomorrow in Riverton and Baxter Springs!

A reminder that the Soda Fountain will be open after school, beginning Monday, August 17. We have extended hours this year and will be open from Monday through Thursday, 3:30 to 8:30 pm. This program is for students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, and high school students desiring tutoring. Van transportation is available from Riverton and Baxter Springs High Schools coming to the Soda Fountain.

Another successful Back to School Fair! We've given out 400 backpacks of supplies and almost 100 haircuts! A huge thank you to the Cherokee County Health Department and the EPA, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department, the Baxter Springs Police Department, Baxter Springs Lion's Club, KanCare, and Grace and Gratitude Thrift Shop! Without your help, our day could not be possible!

A reminder that tomorrow is our Back to School Fair at the Soda Fountain. From 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, we will be handing out FREE backpacks full of supplies, giving free haircuts, clothing tickets for Grace and Gratitude, as well as immunization and lead testing info from the Cherokee County Health Department, and vision screening from the Lion's Club. The Sheriff's Department will be on hand with car seats (limited availability) and providing bicycles for a free drawing!

Students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grades may also register for the Soda Fountain's After School Program, beginning Monday, August 17. Hours for the program have been expanded to 3:30 to 8:30 pm Monday through Thursday. The program is FREE to registered students and includes an after-school snack, tutoring and help on homework assignments, dinner, and social time.

Today is the last day of our summer program. We've been many miles, seen and tried many new things, and had lots of fun!

Make plans now to attend our Back to School Fair on August 4 from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm! We have tons of backpacks full of supplies to give away, free haircuts, clothing, health and vision screenings, immunizations, Medicaid information and drawings for bicycles!

We will resume the after school program on Tuesday, August 18. This program is free to attend and is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, as well as high school students for tutoring only. Be sure to register at the Back to School Fair!

Make plans now to bring your students to the Route 66 Soda Fountain Back-to-School Fair on August 4! From 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, you can pick up a backpack of school supplies, get a haircut, vision and health screenings, immunizations, and clothing . . . all FREE!! Also available is Medicaid information, lead blood testing information, and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department will have limited availability of car seats and will provide a drawing for bicycles! Mark your calendar!! The Soda Fountain is located at 1136 Military in Baxter Springs.

We've had another busy week! We went swimming at the aquatic center in Pittsburg, did a science experiment making and floating aluminum foil boats filled with Lego weights, watched the Supergirl movie, visited Cunningham Park Butterfly Memorial in Joplin, and did the zip line at 5 Mile Camp! We even managed to squeeze in some bingo games!

Evan and Jacob were the winners of the boat contest with their boat holding 273 weights! Thank you Mrs. Price at 5 Mile Camp for this awesome experiment!

The rain stomped on our fishing plans for this morning, but this afternoon brings laser tag, skating, and arcade games.

We were able to squeeze in the Joplin Jailbirds game between rains tonight! So much fun! 3 of our students were selected to play musical chairs, and one ran in the lawnmower race. All left with a lot of laughs and all the hotdogs they could eat! A new memory!
