Dear friends of St. Philip,

We have had a good start to the school year and are excited for all the energy and enthusiasm surrounding our Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools girls volleyball (who won their home opener in a tough contest against Hillsdale Academy). With the cool weather, it certainly feels like fall is upon us. I'm sure there will be another spurt of Summer before the snow flies, but Pumpkin Spice fans can be forgiven for getting excited.

Looking forward to Fall, I want to remind you of the Battle Creek All-Saints Superfest that is less than a month away. Bob and Andrea Johnson have been doing a great job organizing this year's event, with entertainment, games, rides, and food for everyone. Volunteers are still needed, as well as friends to sell raffle tickets, available in the narthex of the church.

To help us come together as a community, Fr. Ankley and I have agreed to combine the early Masses that Sunday, September 20.
There will be no 9 a.m. Mass at St. Philip that day, and attendees are encouraged to participate in an Outdoor Mass (under the tent) at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph.

The Knights of Columbus councils will host a brunch following the Mass. It has been some time since we have done an all-parish Mass in Battle Creek, and this helps connect our Catholic community across parish lines. The Superfest is a great time to come together as a community and support our parishes in the process.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone who helped St. Philip reach our 2026 Bishop's Annual Appeal goal. Every year this appeal helps fund the works of the Church in Southwest Michigan. It is important that those of us who pledged payments over the course of the year, whether monthly, quarterly, or otherwise, follow through on our payments. This way the many ways that our Diocese blesses our communities continue to be supported. Thank you for being a part of this blessing.
