What an incredible way to celebrate Black History Month ❤️✨

I had the honor of attending the Ivory and Cream Affair hosted by the phenomenal Dr. Rhonda Lawson. For 10 years she has created a space that celebrates literacy, legacy, culture, and excellence — and every single year it gets better and better. Her influence continues to grow, and so does the impact of this event.

I was especially honored to donate my services through Higher Minds of Education to the 8th grade essay winner. Investing in our young scholars and pouring into the next generation will always be close to my heart.

Dr. Lawson is not only a visionary leader, she is a dear friend. I am so proud of her consistency, her commitment to our history, and the powerful platform she continues to build.

Here’s to 10 years of excellence — and many more to come! 🖤📚✨

My heart is incredibly heavy as I process the loss of Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
We often say we don’t know someone personally, but when you grow up watching someone’s work, seeing them evolve, speak truth, represent excellence, and carry our culture with quiet strength—you feel like you know them.

Malcolm wasn’t just a talented actor, writer, and artist—he was a constant reminder that our stories matter, that we can be intelligent, artistic, powerful, and Black—without ever having to apologize for it. From his early days on screen to his poetry, music, and activism, he never stopped using his gifts with purpose.

I’ve admired him for years—not just for his talent, but for how he moved with integrity and intention in a world that doesn’t always make space for that. He was thoughtful, grounded, soulful. His art taught us. His words reached us. And his legacy will live far beyond the screen.

To his family, friends, and all of us who feel this loss—my heartfelt condolences. We mourn collectively because he meant something to all of us.

Rest well, King. You left us better than you found us. 🕊️

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from HME! 🎆

Today, we honor the freedoms that define our nation—the freedom to learn, to question, and to build a better future.

But as we celebrate, it’s crucial to recognize growing threats to academic opportunity and equity:

🔴 Pell Grant under fire
Recent legislative proposals aim to tighten eligibility—raising credit-hour minimums and slashing maximum grant awards—jeopardizing support for millions of part-time, low-income, and working students .

🔴 Federal program and research funding at risk
The Trump administration recently paused over $6 billion in education grants for after-school, ESL, and student support programs just ahead of the new school year .
Elite universities like Harvard and Stanford have already announced hiring freezes, layoffs, and budget reductions after billions were frozen or redirected .

🔴 Endowment tax hikes
A new federal bill proposes taxing wealthy university endowments—up to 8%—potentially reducing institutional aid and research funding .

While July 4 celebrates freedom, we must remain vigilant to ensure educational opportunity remains equally free for all. These proposed cuts threaten not just institutional budgets—but the futures of students who depend on them.

At HME, we're committed to:

Elevating student voices, especially those stretching credits part-time or balancing school and work.

Advocating for fair access to aid, research, and academic support.

Collaborating with educators and leaders to be proactive—raising awareness and calling for protections during this crucial funding debate.

Let’s celebrate our independence—and then use that same spirit to fight for the freedom of all learners.

Wishing our community a reflective, empowering Fourth! 🎇
