What happens when Deaf culture and Hispanic heritage meet?
Representation. Leadership. Community.
Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, and we’re celebrating someone who represents this intersection right here at the Louisiana School for the Deaf:
Dr. Natalie Delgado
Executive Director of the Louisiana School for the Deaf
Dr. Delgado is a Deaf Latina, ASL user, and speaker of English and Spanish, with family roots in Ecuador.
Her impressive career includes:
Bachelor’s in Psychology
Master’s in Deaf Studies & Deaf Education
Doctorate in Deaf Studies & Deaf Education
With more than 15 years in Deaf education, her experience spans early intervention, Pre-K–12 education, school leadership, research, and university instruction. She has served as an adjunct instructor at Gallaudet University and Lamar University and has presented nationally on Deaf education, early intervention, language development, and identity.
Her research interests include Deaf Latinx communities, early childhood and early intervention, identity, and language development.
