Recent SJA graduate Brinkley Bennett participated in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), held May 9-15 in Phoenix. One of the world’s largest global STEM competitions, ISEF 2026 brought together more than 1,700 student researchers from 67 countries. Brinkley presented her original research project entitled We the People: An Empirical Analysis of the U.S. Political Climate.

For her project, Brinkley amalgamated publicly accessible polling data in combination with governmental databases and historical trends to create election projections for the 2026 midterms and the 2028 general election. “Being able to present this work on an international stage was extremely rewarding, and it was incredible to be able to represent Louisiana and share research in areas that I’m passionate about: political science and public policy,” she said.

Brinkley especially enjoyed explaining her project, American values and democratic processes to participants from countries with very different systems of government. “These conversations were a reminder of how unique and valuable civic engagement is, while also allowing me to learn more about how young people around the world think about science, government and innovation,” she said.

Brinkley also enjoyed the ISEF pin-trading tradition and was able to collect pins from participants representing more than 60 states, territories and countries. “ISEF was truly an unforgettable experience that gave me the chance to connect with students to explore new ideas and perspectives,” Brinkley said.

Congratulations to SJA junior Cat La, who has been selected for participation in two prestigious programs: The 2026-2027 Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) and the Suit Up for the Future High School Summer Legal Institute and Intern Program.

Cat will represent Congressional District 6 on the LYAC, a body created by state law and open to high school students with an interest in representing the voices of young people across the state. It opens the line of communication between youth and the legislature and gives students the opportunity to be involved in the workings of government. The thirty-one student members are appointed each year, three from each of the state’s congressional districts and the remaining members at large.

The Suit Up for the Future program, sponsored by the Louisiana State Bar Association, is a three-week summer program open to incoming high school juniors, seniors and recent graduates who are interested in the legal profession. During the three-week legal institute, participants attend an abridged law school session, tour law schools and courts and participate in an internship consisting of job shadowing at law offices, courts and agencies.

We are so proud of this young woman and wish her all the best in both opportunities!

Our last final exam has been administered, and the 2025-2026 academic year has come to an end!

During exam week, we were so happy to be visited by our favorite four-legged friends from Bayou Buddies Pet Therapy. Coordinated by St. Joseph’s Academy Wellness Educator Melissa Shaw, the dogs’ visits have become a much-anticipated tradition and a welcome way to de-stress. Bayou Buddies is an outreach of the Louisiana Capital City Obedience Club pet therapy program.

We loved visiting with Pembroke Welsh Corgis Walker Texas Ranger and Teddy, along with their handler Thomas LaTour; Border Collie Malarkey and handler Maribeth Andereck; and Sheepadoodle Winnie and handler Barbara Merritt.

On Monday of exam week, the SJA Dads’ Club provided smoothies to the delight of all.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who put a smile on our faces during exams! Wishing the entire SJA community a fantastic summer.
