LSU College of the Coast & Environment CC&E houses the Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences and the Department of Environment

The College offers graduate degree programs in both departments and an undergraduate degree program in Coastal Environmental Sciences. CC&E works to restore barrier islands, improve hydrology in salt, brackish, and freshwater marshes, protect fish and shellfish for commercial and sports use, provide first warning capability against devastating storms, effect environmental remediation, and better u

nderstand human impacts on ecosystems, to name just a few of our important research initiatives. Our academic programs train tomorrow’s scientists, managers, and policymakers. To learn more about each department, click the following links:

LSU is co-leading a new $4 million National Science Foundation Focused EPSCoR Collaboration award that connects Louisiana’s deltaic wetlands with Rhode Island’s salt marshes to build tools for coastal planning that work in both—and, the team hopes, in coastal systems nationwide.

On Friday, CC&E celebrated the retirement of Tommy Blanchard, the longtime manager of the Wetland Biogeochemistry Analytical Services (WBAS) lab.

WBAS provides researchers the chemical analyses they need to better understand environmental conditions, and Blanchard was instrumental in building it into the sophisticated research enterprise it is today. He retires after more than 28 years of service, having supported countless research projects and contributed to a greater understanding of coastal and environmental systems.

Dr. Song Li will step in as WBAS lab manager.
