We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Erma Hines, a devoted advocate for the arts, education, and community enrichment in Baton Rouge.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Hines led La Capitale Chapter of The Links, Incorporated in its support of the Louisiana Art & Science Museum, helping expand access to art, science, and cultural experiences for countless families and children. Her advocacy supported exhibitions, educational programs, and initiatives like Free First Sundays, ensuring opportunities for learning and discovery were accessible to all.

Dr. Hines’ legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and the community she helped uplift. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones. 💚

It is with deep sorrow that La Capitale (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated shares the passing of our beloved member Erma Waddy Hines, Ph.D., who transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

As a Charter Member of La Capitale (LA) Chapter, established on April 12, 1986, Dr. Hines served the Chapter faithfully for the past 40 years. She was also a Platinum Active Member and Co-Chair of the Arts Facet. Her commitment to friendship, service, and the arts helped shape the foundation and spirit of our chapter. She remained actively engaged with La Capitale until her passing, offering her wisdom, grace, creativity, and steady presence to the work we hold dear.

We mourn the loss of our dear member, friend, and sister, while giving thanks for her life, legacy, and lasting contributions to our chapter and community.

Please keep her family, friends, and the members of La Capitale Chapter in your prayers during this difficult time. 💚🤍

In honor of the Memorial Day holiday and those who have served and sacrificed, the Louisiana Art & Science Museum is proud to continue its Blue Star Museums program, offering year-round free admission to veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and their families. 🇺🇸

This initiative is made possible through the generous support of Special Risk Insurance, Inc. VFIS of Miss/Lou, in memory of District Chief Spencer Chauvin of the St. John Parish Fire Department, and with deep appreciation for 8 years of partnership with the Stogner Family.

Blue Star Museums is a nationwide program in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across the country, helping ensure those who serve have meaningful access to arts and culture. Thanks to VFIS of Miss/Lou, LASM has welcomed more than 16,000 visitors through this program over the past eight years, including over 3,000 in 2025 alone.
