Louisiana ranks No. 1 among the states in reading growth, and the work taking place in these school systems is a big reason why.

Congratulations to the top school systems for achievement on the 2025-2026 K-3 literacy screener. They're leading the way in our state for the percentage of students scoring on or above level.

The 2025 Louisiana Public Interest Fellowship gave Beth Melton the opportunity to strengthen math learning across St. Tammany Parish Public School System. Through family resources, Math Club, tutoring, workshops, and community partnerships, Beth helped students build confidence, problem-solving skills, and a belief in their ability to succeed.

The Silver and Gold STEM Diploma Seals honor students who complete one of Louisiana’s five STEM Pathways, demonstrating their commitment to rigorous learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Three Louisiana school systems led the state in the number of students earning STEM Diploma Seals during the 2025–26 school year, recognizing students who completed rigorous STEM-focused pathways:

EBR Schools: 473 seals
Lafayette Parish School System: 172 seals
Jefferson Parish Schools: 127 seals

Louisiana students will soon spend more of their physical education classes moving.

Louisiana BESE approved new K-12 physical education standards this week. The standards focus on lifelong fitness, build age and grade appropriate skills, and let teachers adapt lessons to the space and equipment available.

The standards take effect in the 2027-2028 school year. A committee of educators and stakeholders drafted them during a review we began in 2025.
