Congratulations to the top school systems for achievement on the 2025-2026 K-3 literacy screener. They're leading the way in our state for the percentage of students scoring on or above level.

Each system was recognized during the August Louisiana BESE meeting.

The National Council on Teacher Quality raises three important questions about teacher pay and housing:

Have novice teacher salaries kept pace with rising housing costs?

Can novice teachers afford to rent in the communities where they work?

Can novice teachers afford to buy a home where they teach?

These questions go beyond housing. They are about whether educator salaries are keeping up with the rising cost of everyday life.

A high-stakes review of Louisiana’s system for allocating billions of dollars to public schools each year kicked off Thursday, launching a process that in just a few months could produce a plan to overhaul the decades-old funding system.

The “top-to-bottom review” of the state’s school-funding system is being conducted by a 15-member task force, which held its first meeting Thursday at the state Capitol.

Today, President Larry Carter represented Louisiana’s teachers, school employees, and affiliate unions on the Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) Formula Task Force.

The MFP formula plays a critical role in determining how Louisiana funds public education and supports the educators and school employees who serve our students every day.

LFT will be at the table, advocating for a fair, transparent, and sustainable funding formula that recognizes the needs of students, school employees, and public schools across Louisiana.

Our message is clear: educators and school employees deserve a strong voice in decisions that directly affect their work, their students, and their communities.
