Southern University Alumni - East Baton Rouge Parish Chapter

Our regular chapter meeting will be Wed., June 10th, at 6:00 P.M. It will be an in-person meeting, held at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Catholic Student Center, 586 Harding Blvd. (next to the Valdry Center for Philanthropy) on Southern University's campus.

We will present the 2026 scholarship recipients to the chapter members in the June meeting.

On Sunday, May 31st, members of the Southern University Alumni Federation East Baton Rouge Parish chapter, fellowshiped collectively at Beacon Light Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, pastored by Elder Eric Williams. In observing the culmination of Mental Health Awareness month (May), the message entitled A Warning for Warriors; Use Your Resources, was brought forth by Dr. Tarkisha Wallace. She reminded us in Philippians 4:6, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to god, all while encouraging us to not go it alone, shouldering the issues that we may face on a daily basis but to use the mental health resources that are available to us. 💚💙💛

Please join us as we congratulate this year's graduates, applicants, and winners of the East Baton Rouge Parish Chapter's scholarships! This year's winnings totaled $7,500! The scholarships will be presented to the three recipients at our June 10th chapter meeting. We are extremely proud of your accomplishments, and await your successes at Southern University and A&M College! Let's go future jags! 💙💛

There are many stops on the pathway to greatness, and we are glad to have been one of them! Our chapter was pleased to formally recognize Coach Barry Doyle while making history by cementing his place in the history books of women's bowling. Such accomplishments include guiding the bowling team to back-to-back SWAC regular season championships, as they claimed the 2024 SWAC Regular Season Championship; in his third season, being named SWAC Women's Bowling Coach of the Year after securing the SWAC regular championship; reaching his 100th win in his career at Southern; three-time SWAC Women's Bowling Coach of the Year and 2025 SWAC Women's Bowling Co-Coach of the year. We have no doubt that you will continue making a difference in the lives of female athletes, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors, Coach!

The Department of Athletics is excited to welcome Coach Barry Doyle as the new leader of our Women’s Bowling program! 🎳

Coach Doyle brings more than 30 years of experience and leadership to Grambling State Bowling, and we look forward to an exciting new chapter for the program.
