LSU Department of Biological Sciences professor Dr. Patricia Schneider was featured at last night’s Science Café presentation,“Split Screens: Exploring Vision through the Eyes of the Four-Eyed Fish.” Attendees learned how the extraordinary visual system of 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘱𝘴 provides new insight into evolution, adaptation, and the biology of vision. 🔬✨

For nearly two decades, scientists have searched for evidence that high-energy gamma rays could escape from superluminous supernovae — some of the brightest explosions in the universe. Now, LSU researchers helped uncover a signal that may finally provide answers. Using NASA’s Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, the team identified evidence of gamma rays emerging from a rare cosmic explosion, opening a new window into the extreme physics powering these extraordinary stellar events. 🌌✨

Today, we celebrate more than degrees — we celebrate discovery, perseverance, and the bright future ahead for the LSU College of Science Spring 2026 graduates! 🎓🐯

We were honored to hear from commencement speaker Dr. Jim Dalton, LSU Executive Vice President & Chancellor, who encouraged graduates to “Know your question. Own it completely. And pursue it with the full force of your training and your intellect.” He also reminded students that “Failure is not the opposite of discovery. Failure is how discovery happens.”

Graduates, may you pursue your questions boldly and embrace discovery in every challenge ahead. Congratulations, Tigers — we can’t wait to see where your curiosity and determination take you next!
