The Louisiana Fit Kids project promotes Child Nutrition Programs for a Healthier Louisiana.

Major improvements are being made across the country and in Louisiana to increase access to healthy food and promote student wellness. The Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act (HHFKA) of 2010, a reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act sets new nutrition standards for meal patterns, food sold and served in schools, and requires training and certification for all school nutrition personnel. USDA works closely with to ensure that children who receive free or reduced-price school meals can get the nutrition they need when schools are closed for summer break. Through USDA's summer meal programs, approved sites in communities across the country serve meals and snacks to kids 18 and younger at no cost. Families can use the Summer Meals Site Finder to find directions to nearby meal sites, as well as their hours of operation and contact information. St. James Parish Schools Child Nutrition Department Presents its Annual Summer Food Service Program!

LDH will begin issuing SUN Bucks this week. The program provides $120 in grocery benefits to help ensure children who receive free or reduced-price school meals get the nutrition they need when schools are closed for summer break. Children who are automatically enrolled should see SUN Bucks added to their EBT card between Wednesday, May 27, and Tuesday, June 2.
