Army Corp of Engineers ERDC in Vicksburg, MS.
The US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is seeking environmental/natural resource scientists with at least 1 year of experience in natural resource or hazard assessment, field and laboratory research to support ERDC’s Environmental Laboratory’s Natural Resource Damage Assessment Science Network . The candidate must be highly motivated, self-directed, and capable of working well within a team structure but work independently, manage projects and deliver products according to a strict project management plan timeline.
This position is interdisciplinary (biologist, environmental science, restoration science, environmental policy, risk assessment, etc.). Individual will support research associated with environmental sciences, contaminant stressors in aquatic and terrestrial habitats, and restoring impaired habitats. Knowledge of environmental sciences from a multi-disciplinary perspective is essential. Experience in natural resource damage assessment, ecological restoration, toxicology, data manipulation and synthesis (software MS Access, MS Excel), information management, database management, ArcGIS, and MS Project is highly desirable. Strong communication, organization, and scientific writing skills are required to work in a highly multidiscipline, collaborative environment within a litigation sensitive context. Must be willing to address various environmental challenges, and rapidly respond to containment spills/releases if needed to support injury assessment efforts.
Duties included but not limited to:
• Damage Assessment and Restoration Collaboration: Participate in collaborative conference calls and/or meetings with various stakeholders, works closely with Federal, State, and Tribal Trustees, and respective legal representatives, assist with preparing planning documents and administrative reporting, support any litigation activities, provide technical support for restoration planning, implementation, and monitoring
• Project Coordination: Scheduling (MS Project), Data compilation and synthesis, Data product preparation (Spatial and/or Graphs/Tables), Report writing
• Laboratory/Field Research: Assisting with laboratory/field studies
• Proposals/Projects Development: cost and time estimation, assist with proposal writing
• Travel
An undergraduate degree in environmental or natural resource science is required, with preference for a masters degree or work experience (at least 1 year) in natural resource sciences.
