Just as a reminder

This Haskris cooler has seen better days. It is restoring. Two tire-d to work anymore. It's going home to chill.

This summer was great! How great? Here are some photos of what one of our REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) did this summer. Also in frame are Dr. P. Sprunger and Dr. O.K...I mean Dr. O. Kilzilkaya.

Welcome to the CAMD Linac. Excuse our dust as we are building up...well, down...underground

So, who ever said that a few kilowatts of x-rays were harmless.... Here is a demonstration of what an unfiltered beam off CAMD CAN potentially do to a piece of aluminum. We don't have Robert Downey, Jr.'s Iron suit. But this took moments. (Below: an aluminum plate damaged from the effects of synchrotron radiation.)

This was the little silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) that failed inside that large power supply last week. It does does not have a diagnostic on it. It had no means to quickly find it. It took 3 guys, 3 days, and a bit of determination to find the little part.

Continuing to find why the vertical bending magnet power supply is offline. Next up, try replacing the gating card because of suspected poor signal to the SCRs.

For everyone in Baton Rouge and beyond, if you are reading the CAMD page, recommend it to others and check back. We are trying to keep up with posts between operations and maintenance and angry user teams who feed us donuts and confections. The trend keeps our typically invisible lab in the territory of, "Oh, I heard of you guys." and "You're lab is sooo cool. Geaux Tigers!" We may not collide subatomic particles, we don't score touchdowns on Saturdays, but we do some pretty terrific stuff.

So....that didn't work. The Vertical Bending magnet power won't be swayed back to working condition with a wave of a magic wand. So now we are tearing into the direct current current transformer's transducer. Weeeeeee....

Annddddd....now we wait.

Sometimes bad storms break things. Here we are replacing a DCCT transducer. Last week's storm damaged a vertical bending magnet power supply. But we are repairing it.

Tuesday morning at LSU CAMD brings us a little work on rebuilding the current connectors on the superconducting wavelength shifter. This bird's eye view let's you see a little of the complexity of the one of the "turrets" that sits atop the cryostat.
