Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University welcomed more than 400 new students for the fall 2026 semester, including the largest incoming freshman class in university history.

FranU continues to see growth across several academic programs, including Radiologic Technology, Biology’s Pre-Professional Human Medicine Track and its Accelerated Pathways. Nursing has also continued to grow, building on FranU’s reputation as the No. 1 accredited nursing school in Louisiana for 2026, according to allnurses.

“Seeing so many students choose FranU is a reflection of the trust families and communities across Louisiana place in our university,” said Dr. David Bellar, president and CEO. “With 97% of our incoming students coming from Louisiana, we have an opportunity to prepare more graduates for the fields where they are needed most and, ultimately, to have them return that investment to the communities they call home.”

Carrying the Mission Forward

For Dr. Kristen Martin, Director of Clinical Education, FNP program, preparing the next generation of healthcare providers means helping them understand what it means to carry FranU’s mission forward.

“My time at Our Lady has really driven home that we have to be fostering a desire in our future healthcare providers to continue our mission. We need to continue to foster that love for all life.”

Dr. Martin also lives out that mission through her work with Our Lady of the Lake Physicians Group at Healthy Ascension Clinic in Gonzales, which was originally established to serve the uninsured of Ascension Parish.

Through education and service, Dr. Martin is helping future healthcare providers understand that caring for others is more than a profession. It is part of the Franciscan mission.

Service learning is about taking what students learn in the classroom and putting it into action to make a difference in the community. 💙 

At FranU, these experiences help students grow in their education, their calling and their commitment to serving others. Through meaningful partnerships, our students have the opportunity to learn from the community while using their knowledge and skills to address real needs. 
We are grateful to our incredible community partners who welcome our students, share their expertise and help create experiences that make a lasting impact.

Welcome back, FranU! 💙🐺 Welcome Week was filled with excitement, connection and plenty of memories as we welcomed our Wolf Pack back to campus. From meeting new friends to celebrating the start of a new semester, our campus community came together in true Franciscan spirit.
