As healthcare organizations across Louisiana work to strengthen the nursing workforce, supporting newly licensed nurses during their transition into practice has never been more important. This white paper, jointly developed by the Louisiana State Nurses Association (LSNA) and the Louisiana Organization of Nurse Leaders (LONL), explores how structured Transition-to-Practice (TTP) programs can improve nurse retention, enhance patient safety, and build a more resilient healthcare workforce.

Drawing on evidence-based practices and the framework established by the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP®), the paper highlights the organizational and professional benefits of supporting newly licensed nurses through their first year of practice. It also examines emerging workforce strategies, including Employed Student Nurse programs, that can help strengthen Louisiana's nursing pipeline and support long-term workforce sustainability.

We invite you to read this important resource and learn how investment in transition-to-practice programs can advance nursing excellence, workforce stability, and quality patient care across Louisiana.
