🌾 Connecting research, farmers, and the future of Louisiana agriculture.

This week at Richard’s Rice Farm, Dr. Brenda TubaΓ±a, Professor of Soil Fertility and Chair of SPESS at the LSU AgCenter, led the Patrick F. Taylor Rice Model Farm Field Day, bringing together researchers, producers, and agricultural leaders to share data and experiences from the past several years.

The field day was an opportunity to present research results and discuss perspectives on best management practices in rice production, nutrient management, sustainability, and the future of Louisiana agriculture.

We were also honored to have Dr. Matt Lee, Senior Vice Chancellor & Dean of the LSU AgCenter and College of Agriculture, Dr. Michael Salassi, Executive Associate Vice President for Agriculture at the LSU AgCenter, and Dr. Mike Strain, Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry for the State of Louisiana, joining us in the field.

Events like this highlight the importance of bringing research directly to the farmβ€”turning data and science into practical management strategies that can support Louisiana producers and strengthen agricultural productivity and sustainability.

πŸ“£This week part of our Research Team led by Dr. Tubana attended the Nitrogen Use Efficiency Workshop held at Mississippi State University πŸ—ΊοΈ representing our department and LSU AgCenter.
Time to share part of our research work (11 posters, 1 oral presentation, and 1 hackathon team) from multiple projects across the state of Louisiana with different crops and objectives, but with one main goal: higher-level research that will not only bring scientific results but also answers that will help our growers and the agriculture community. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬πŸ’«πŸ“š

This year's field day season gave sugarcane growers something new: the opportunity to see research in two additional regions of the cane belt.

With sugarcane now being grown at the LSU AgCenter's research stations in Alexandria and Jeanerette, researchers can evaluate how different soils and growing conditions affect production. That means research that is even more relevant to growers across Louisiana.

One project featured at the Jeanerette field day focused on variable rate fertilizer technology, which could help farmers use nitrogen more efficiently and reduce one of their biggest production costs.
