Waiting too long to act on your VA claim could mean being evaluated under a completely different set of rules. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

The VA is proposing major changes to how conditions like sleep apnea, tinnitus, and mental health are ratedโ€”shifting focus toward functional impairment rather than diagnosis alone.

โœ… While current ratings have certain protections, any new claims or requests for increase may be subject to updated criteria that could significantly impact outcomes.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Read the full article to understand what is changing and how these updates may affect your next claim or rating decision.

He said he was โ€œfine.โ€

But his service records said otherwise. ๐Ÿคฏ

William L., a Vietnam Veteran never reached out for help himself, his wife did.

By the time they connected, he was already dealing with early-stage Alzheimerโ€™s.

He could still talk about Vietnam, but like many Veterans, he would always say the same thing:

โ€œI didnโ€™t do anythingโ€ฆ Iโ€™m fine.โ€ ๐Ÿค

But when his records were reviewed, a different story started to appear.

His DD214 showed medals and decorations that pointed to combat involvementโ€”something he never fully acknowledged himself.

Before this, they had already tried to get help.

๐Ÿ”ด They contacted multiple VSOs.

๐Ÿ”ด Calls werenโ€™t returned.

๐Ÿ”ด No clear direction was given.

Frustration built over time, until his wife asked for someone, anyone, to take a closer look.

At that point, he was rated at 0%.

And there were real challenges:

โŒ He didnโ€™t have complete medical records.

โŒ He couldnโ€™t clearly explain his experiences anymore.

โŒ And a strong connection between his service and condition hadnโ€™t been established.

So instead of relying on what he could say now, the focus shifted to what was already available.

โ˜‘๏ธ His medical diagnoses were reviewed.

โ˜‘๏ธ His service records and decorations were used as supporting evidence.

โ˜‘๏ธ Statements from his wife helped fill in the gaps.

โ˜‘๏ธ Even past recordings of him talking about his experiences were considered.

Piece by piece, the full picture came together.

What changed? The result was a 100% Permanent & Total disability rating, along with Aid & Attendance support for his wife. ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿซก

This meant:

โœจ Full monthly compensation

โœจ Additional support for his caregiver

โœจ Access to long-term care and benefits

He didnโ€™t fully understand what had just happened.

But his wife did.

After years of searching for answers, being turned away, and feeling like no one was listening, this was the first time everything finally made sense on paper.

For her, it wasnโ€™t just a decision.

It was confirmation that what he went through had always mattered. ๐Ÿ’ช

Some cases donโ€™t move forward because the Veteran canโ€™t explain everything anymore.

But that doesnโ€™t mean the evidence isnโ€™t there.

If you or your family feel like something has been overlooked, it may be worth taking a closer look at whatโ€™s already documented, and what hasnโ€™t been fully connected yet. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today, we remember those who never made it home. ๐Ÿซก๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Memorial Day honors the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Their sacrifice is a lasting reminder of the cost of our freedom, and it will never be forgotten.

Getting rated too low for asthma often comes down to documentation, not just severity.

๐Ÿ“Œ Many Veterans are unaware that the VA evaluates more than pulmonary function test results. Medication usage, frequency of flare-ups, and how symptoms impact daily life all play a critical role in determining the final rating.

โ˜‘๏ธ Review the full article to gain clarity on how asthma is evaluated and what evidence supports more accurate rating outcomes.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Ever wonder how the VA decides your disability rating?

The VA uses a ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฒ that measures how much a service-connected condition impacts your ability to work. Each condition is assigned a percentage from 0% to 100%, and even a small difference in percentage can mean a major change in monthly compensation. ๐Ÿ’ธ

Thatโ€™s why your medical evidence, service records, and documentation matterโ€”strong evidence can directly influence the rating you receive.
