🌟 Employee Spotlight: Mia 🌟

This month, we’re excited to recognize Mia as our Employee Spotlight!

Mia’s journey with our community has truly come full circle. After spending two years as a Personal Assistant in our Reunion Neighborhood, she left to pursue her dream of completing nursing school. We were thrilled to welcome her back as one of our newest nurses!

Mia’s bright smile, compassionate heart, and positive attitude make a wonderful impact on both residents and team members. She is always willing to jump in and help, and she even brings plenty of joy to the community with her love of karaoke!

Mia’s dedication, kindness, and caring spirit make her a well-deserved recipient of this recognition. Congratulations, Mia, and thank you for all that you do!

Delta College of Arts & Technology hosted a visit by Dr. Kirk A. Nooks, President and CEO of our accrediting agency, the Council on Occupational Education (COE). COE is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency and is a respected authority in the accreditation of non-degree-granting and applied associate degree-granting postsecondary occupational education institutions.

Dr. Nooks met with key college officials including President, Billy L. Clark; Provost, Dr. Christian Vige’; Director of Accreditation, Ms. Carol Hasegawa; and Corporate Practical Nursing Programs Coordinator, Ms. Comelia Jackson Pounds. During the meeting Dr. Nooks gave a quick overview of COE and Mr. Clark gave a history of how Delta enrolled their first students in 1970 and grew into the largest single provider of LPN’s in the state of Louisiana.

Touring the campus, Dr. Nooks stopped to talk to students from many programs before ending the tour at the Practical Nursing Building, where he met with a panel of students to hear their “Delta story”. One student asked Dr. Nooks how he became the President and CEO of an accrediting commission. His answer was quite inspiring, with the theme being never stop writing your story and don’t let your story end before you’ve finished it. Hopefully Dr. Nooks can share his story often.

The tour ended with a small group of PN students giving a skills demonstration in the Nursing Lab. We are grateful for the time Dr. Nooks spent with our folks and the wisdom, vision and inspiration he brings to COE.
