Conscious Moms is putting on a great event for area mamas. Miles2Moms. May 9 at the Hayfield Alex Box Stadium at LSU.
This is a 2-mile walk/run benefiting maternal mental health. They have curated something called the Mom Village which is a network of resources directed specifically towards the needs of moms. I'll be there answering questions about special education law, IEPs, IAPs, 504 plans, BIPs, MDRs, etc, etc!! Come say hi!!

RELATED SERVICES
Is ABA therapy a related service?
No.
ABA is not a related service under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
However, if your child needs ABA therapy, Louisiana 2018 Act 696, allows private behavioral health providers to offer services in schools, requiring parental consent and responsibility for costs, while stipulating that these services must be provided in a way that serves the student's best interest. It is something we can pursue!

RELATED SERVICES
Not all related services are for every student! Students must qualify for services such as speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. For PT and OT, a physician's order may be needed each IEP year.

RELATED SERVICES
Be careful, at the IEP meeting, to ask how related services will look for your child. Sometimes I see wording like, "OT will be provided on behalf of the student and can be consultative in nature." Make sure you know what your student's services will look like!

RELATED SERVICES can include: medication administration, catheterization, suctioning a tracheotomy, administering eyedrops, nebulizer treatments, managing conditions like allergies and anaphylaxis, and more!

The case of Cedar Rapids v. Garret F. holds that schools must provide all necessary related services for a student to attend school, including 1:1 nursing and other supportive services that do not require a physician to perform.
