It’s a mystery! The white spruce that we planted a few years ago mysteriously began dying this past spring. When it became clear that the tree was beyond help, we reached out to community foresters with the NH Dept of Natural Resources. Today the foresters met with Mrs. Avery, Mr. Avery, Mrs. Jones, Grammie T, and Pappy B to take a look at the tree and try to determine the cause of its very swift decline, as well as to replace it with a beautiful new white spruce. Cursory examinations by state foresters AJ and Liz seemed to rule out any underlying issues with our soil, but they took pieces of the tree back with them to examine more closely. It seems that the most likely culprit is “winter burn”, but we will wait to hear what they say after examining the tree more closely.
