We loved welcoming Amy Mucha, founder of Kent's own , to speak with our 8th graders! Amy shared her entrepreneurial journey and showed students how math shows up in real life, from maximizing profits and managing costs to calculating surface area for cake pop decorating. A former math teacher herself, Amy also encouraged students to think creatively as future entrepreneurs. Thank you, Amy, for inspiring (and treating) our students!

Junior Kindergarten carried their literacy lesson outside, wandering our campus and pausing to take photos of things they found interesting, beautiful or inspiring.

Back in the classroom, those images became seeds for writing and story. Children reflected on their discoveries and shared their thinking through pictures, words and conversation.

We believe children learn best when literacy grows out of real experience, not apart from it. Taking learning outdoors invites children to notice closely, think deeply and find their own words for the world around them.

Toast to the new school year at our annual Mix in the Meadow parent social.

Mix is a wonderful opportunity for adults in our school community to gather and celebrate Old Trail, the start of the school year and the beginning of fall. As we mix from 5:00-7:00 p.m., those attending will enjoy cocktails, live music, hors d’oeuvres, and the company of new and old friends. We encourage you to continue your evening by making dinner reservations after the event!

Sometimes the best lesson plan is simply setting out something worth wondering about, then stepping back and watching the learning unfold.

A provocation is a deliberately set-up invitation, such as an arrangement of materials, an object, an image or a question, designed to spark children's curiosity and open up exploration, without telling the child what to do or what to conclude.

For Preschool 2, this month's provocation was sunflowers. No true instructions, just an invitation to look, touch, create representations and ask questions.

Here's some of what they noticed:
"My plan for the seed is to mix the colors for the color I need."
"The middle feels spiky but also soft."
"I am noticing the smell comes from the center."
"Each of the seeds are a little different."

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual Fall Festival! We sang, we danced, we rode rockets—and celebrated the start of another school year with our incredible Old Trail community.

A HUGE thank you to DJ Nick Duve (P '32) for once again bringing the house down! He brought the OTS magic to the dance floor, and you can see the joy written all over our students’ faces.
