🚜Take a look at what’s been happening at Wildroots.

Our older students became farm planners and engineers as they designed and built their own farm dioramas! 🌱🚜 Students decided where to place crops, and other important farm features. Once their farms were complete, we put their designs to the test!

💨 Wind Test: Students simulated strong winds to observe how wind affected their crops with a leaf blower.

🌧️ Flood Test: Students simulated heavy rainfall and flooding to see where water traveled and collected on their farms. They observed which crops were most at risk and discussed how elevation, drainage, and crop placement can help reduce flood damage.

After testing, students evaluated their designs and determined what they would move, change, or improve to make their farms more resilient.

🌿This class has also been studying essential oils and some different uses for each. This week they were able to make their own rollers to take home.

🐄Our elementary class learned about a variety of animals. Each child was able to bring in an animal of their choice. The kids had to ask questions to get clues in order to try and find out what animals were brought.

🌽Later, we discussed corn. We talked about different types of corn and the corn cycle. We then did a science experiment where we hypothesized what would happen with corn when adding vinegar, baking soda, and water. The corn was definitely dancing.

🚜Our littler learners have been busy learning about different jobs that take place on the farm and all about farm equipment. This week we took a walk around the farm and found something green to glue in our nature journals. Making “nature pies” with our playdoh outside was definitely a fun activity.

We were excited to welcome Rooted Lotus Yoga with Debbie back to the farm for a morning of Yoga. 🧘🏼‍♀️

🎨Creative Art students had so much fun today!!

Each student was assigned a friend in class to draw… but their person was a secret. Details in the picture were important so we could guess the person at the end!! This was a huge hit with lots of giggles. ❤️

💛 We Have 2 Students Who Need a Sponsor 💛

Right now, we have two students who need financial sponsorship in order to continue their education at Batesville Enrichment Center.

These are students who are already part of our community—students who are learning, growing, building confidence, and benefiting from the individualized education our center provides. We want to make sure that financial circumstances don’t stand in the way of them continuing that journey.

Through our nonprofit education foundation, The Parker Education Foundation, individuals, families, and businesses can help cover all or a portion of a student’s tuition as a tax-deduction.

Every contribution matters. A full sponsorship can change a student’s entire school year, while smaller contributions can come together to make that same opportunity possible.

📚2 students, 2 opportunities to make an incredible impact.

If you, your family, or your business would like to help sponsor one of these students, please send us a private message.

Invest in a student. Support a family. Impact a future. ❤️

🐓Wildroots had their first big enrichment day at the farm!! ☀️🛝

Our older students worked together on installing a drainage system for our duck pool. They worked together to create a fun swimming area for the ducks and designing a ramp area for them. 🦆💦

We introduced Bluey and Bingo, our twin Nigerian Dwarf goats, to the farm. They are 2 weeks old this week requiring bottle feeds, daily weights and care. Students learned about their food, horns, habitats and daily care. 🐐

🌽Our little learners learned about the life cycle of corn. They enjoyed learning about the different parts of corn and then shucking their very own ear of corn!!

🚜We continue to work hard to build the farm and we love sharing this journey and experience with our students.

🌾Wildroots Schoolhouse had their first week of Microschool on the farm. We love that these kids are able to help us build this school from the ground up at the farm.

Students enjoyed all the farm chores this week. We let our chickens out to free range and join us in the outdoor classroom. We filled cleaned all the animals water bowls and gave them fresh water. We fed the animals and gave plenty of treats. We gave the ducks fresh water to swim in, checked on our pumpkins and filled small gaps in the chicken coop with soil. 🐓

In science this week we learned about the different parts of the pumpkin plant and investigated what's eating our leaves. 🎃

We explored math stations, reviewed adding and subtracting single digit numbers and math vocabulary. ➕✖️➗➖

For ELA this week we rotated reading a book of choice, did a little sight word review and began working with analogies and nouns. 📚

We jumped right into history with an intro to agriculture lesson and why farming and raising animals are so important. We explored agriculture and farming through the years. 🚜

👀Stay tuned… TODAY is our first Wildroots Enrichment Day with over 30 students on the farm. We can’t wait to share all the fun today!!
