that all neutrinos are left-handed? 🫲✨

In 1958, scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory discovered this strange fact using an ingenious tabletop experiment.

In physics, "handedness" describes which way a particle spins relative to the direction it is traveling.

Other particles—like electrons and quarks—come in both left- and right-handed varieties. But neutrinos are the ultimate rebels. Every single neutrino we have ever detected is strictly left-handed.

Today, we are still hunting for hypothetical "right-handed" neutrinos. If they exist, they could be very different from the left-handed neutrinos we know and love.

This is how Vanguard started.

Our founder Elizabeth noticed something traditional schools couldn't see: gifted kids are chronologically grouped but intellectually ready for something different. Age-based classrooms don't match how they actually learn.

So we're asking you-what was YOUR first 'aha moment'? What did you notice about your child that traditional school overlooked? Was it their curiosity outpacing the curriculum? Their frustration with busywork? Their need to dive deeper into one topic for weeks?

We built Vanguard because we believe your child's readiness matters more than their birthday. And we know you've already seen that truth.

Comment below and share what you noticed. Let's build community around what our kids actually need. đź§

Vanguard Gifted Academy was started because Mrs. Blaetz kept watching brilliant kids hit an invisible ceiling - not because they lacked ability, but because their schools taught subjects like separate islands.

Here's what we have noticed: gifted learners don't just think faster. They think *in connections*. They spot patterns everywhere. But traditional curricula don't teach them to look.

Step 1 is the problem most schools create without realizing it. Math stays math. History stays history. Your gifted kid solves the equation, checks the box, moves on - never seeing that the same principle shows up in architecture, in music theory, in how ecosystems balance.

Step 2 is the "aha" moment. Once a student *sees* a pattern repeat across domains, it sticks differently. Deeper. Faster.

Step 3 is where Vanguard's extended learning modules come in. Instead of 45-minute periods, students spend real time exploring how one big idea branches across disciplines - they're not just learning *what* to think, they're learning *how* to think across boundaries.

Step 4 is what happens next: retention skyrockets, problem-solving gets sharper, and your gifted kid starts asking the kinds of questions that change how they see the world.

If you've noticed your child thriving on depth and getting bored by surface-level learning, this cycle is designed for them. Let's talk about how interdisciplinary learning unlocks what traditional school can't.

DM us or schedule a tour to learn how Vanguard builds this connective thinking into every module.

Here's what I've noticed after years working with gifted learners: the kids who thrive aren't just the ones who move faster through content. They're the ones who see *connections* - how a history lesson informs design, how biology shapes infrastructure, how systems fit together.

Traditional schools fragment this. Math is math. Science is science. History stays in its lane. And gifted kids? They're left feeling like something's missing, even when they're acing every test.

That's exactly why I built Vanguard's model around interdisciplinary learning. Extended modules let your child chase a question across multiple domains, develop systems thinking, and solve problems the way the real world actually works.

If your gifted child feels unchallenged or bored despite straight A's, this might be the missing piece. Take our free assessment and let's talk about what learning without limits could look like for them.

We built Vanguard because we watched too many gifted kids-brilliant, curious, hungry to learn-sit in classrooms designed for the average. One birthday shouldn't determine what a child is ready to master.

When did you first realize your gifted child needed something different? Share your moment with us-we'd love to hear it.

Vanguard Gifted Academy is officially an "Influential Face of 2026"! 🎉

This recognition belongs to our amazing families, our brilliant educators, and most importantly, to our retired founder, Elizabeth Blaetz. Elizabeth built Vanguard because she knew gifted children shouldn't have to spend valuable learning time waiting for a curriculum to catch up to them. She created a sanctuary where education fits the child, not the other way around.

We are so proud to continue her vital mission every single day. At Vanguard, we understand gifted children, meet them where they are, and then challenge them. Through our collaborative, multi-aged bands, our students aren't just learning academics—they are building the confidence, strong mental habits, and resilience needed to better their world.

Thank you to the community for supporting authentic, personalized learning! Read our feature in the new digital edition here: https://ntmediagroup.com/vanguard-gifted-academy/

True leadership is about showing up and doing the work. This past Sunday at the Glow and Grind event, I had the pleasure of watching Bolingbrook Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta do exactly that. She wasn't just there for the spotlight—she was actively helping people, working the event, and capturing the moments herself.

As an educator, I also want to highlight her incredible work as the Founding Vice President of the Bolingbrook STEM Association for Youth. It’s one thing to talk about the importance of STEM, but it’s another to actually build the infrastructure that gives students hands-on opportunities in robotics, coding, and engineering.

We are right in the thick of our own free summer STREAM community outreach at Vanguard Gifted Academy, so I know firsthand how much effort goes into creating these experiences. When our civic leaders roll up their sleeves and champion youth education, the whole community wins. Thank you, Mayor Alexander-Basta, for your genuine dedication to service!

It is always inspiring to see professionals using their platform to give back!

While many know Krissy as a runway model and radio personality, her work as a youth advocate in Chicago is truly making waves.

During the summer, she runs incredible STEAM camps where youth are treated like real interns. By bringing in professional designers and offering hands-on career development apprenticeships, Krissy equips students with the mentorship and resume-building skills they need to succeed. She is exposing the next generation to the realities of business ownership and helping them navigate their future career paths with confidence.

Thank you, Krissy, for being a true leader and creating spaces for our youth to thrive!

It is amazing how much world-changing history is right here in the Tri-City area!

In the June issue of BeLocal (The New Movers Guide for the Tri-Cities), right after you pass the Vanguard Gifted Academy information, there is a wonderful article about the Fabyan Japanese Gardens and Villa Museum. We recently spent some time there, and beyond being absolutely gorgeous, the legacy of science and innovation is fascinating.

Some of the United States' very first codebreakers did their work right out of the Fabyan estate. George Fabyan also ran massive experiments manipulating sound using tuning forks. I’ve been reading George Fabyan: The Tycoon who broke ciphers, ended wars, manipulated sound, built a levitation machine, and organized the modern research center, and it is a phenomenal look at what happened right in our own community.

At summer camp this week, our students are actually learning about the science of sound and doing their own experiments with tuning forks. It is so powerful to be able to connect our hands-on camp activities to the legendary history just down the road.

Thank you, BeLocal, for spotlighting this incredible local treasure!
