Credit is more than a score—it’s access, opportunity, and stability.

A recent WBEZ article highlights how credit card swipe fees in Illinois are impacting small businesses and consumers, showing how complex financial systems can quietly shape everyday life.

As an educator, I believe I have to keep learning in order to better empower my students. Financial literacy—especially around credit—can change life outcomes.

This Saturday at 10 AM on Zoom, I’ll be in a workshop with Eric Counts learning how to clean up credit profiles and structure personal and business credit to better understand funding pathways, lender expectations, and approval processes.

I’m bringing this knowledge back to my students so they can navigate credit with confidence and strategy in the real world.

🎓📚🍎💛 Recently I secured Title I funding for students in a public therapeutic day school program because I saw how urgently they needed more support to succeed.

🎓📚🍎💛That funding helped provide essential resources—targeted instruction, materials, and interventions for students with significant academic and emotional needs.

A recent article in The 74 highlights a difficult truth: wealthier students are more likely to receive disability accommodations, reflecting ongoing inequities in access tied to income and ZIP code.

In practice, that inequity is not just data—it’s lived experience. Title I funding helped give my students a stronger chance at being supported in the ways they truly needed.

Wealthy Students More Likely to Get Disability Accommodations, Study Finds Section 504 plans are one of the most important sources of disability services in schools. Why are well-off families their biggest beneficiaries?

One of the most meaningful professional experiences of my career was earning my Postsecondary Disabilities Certificate from St. Ambrose University in 2012.

That training strengthened my commitment to ensuring students with disabilities receive meaningful transition services—not just compliance paperwork. Students deserve opportunities to build executive functioning skills, self-advocacy, organization, communication, and independence before leaving high school.

Too often, students are expected to suddenly navigate college or employment systems without fully understanding accommodations, disability services, or how to advocate for themselves. I believe transition planning should empower students for real-world success.

Designing Classroom Accommodations That Help Students With Disabilities Succeed in College Teachers can support students during the final stages of college preparation by viewing supports through a transition lens.

🎓📚🎓📚🍎A little over ten years ago, I started Infinite Learners, my private teaching company, and began working with a middle school student who, like all of us, needed someone to believe in him academically and personally.

🎓📚🎓📚🍎Today, that same student texted me a picture of his diploma from Illinois State University, a Bachelors Degree in Business Finance.

🎓📚🎓📚🍎This is right in time for National Teacher Appreciation Week and National Small Business Week.

💛🎓📚🍎💛I sent him a few old email correspondences from his middle school teachers — reminders of how far he has come and how much he has overcome. Looking back at those moments makes this accomplishment even more meaningful.

💛🎓📚🍎💛In a time when education is often criticized, moments like this remind me why the work still matters. As an exceptional needs educator, I have always tried my best to make sure my students attain academic success, confidence, growth, and independence — even when the road was difficult.

💛🎓📚🍎💛To my special graduate: congratulations. I respect you so much because I know this journey was not easy, but you did it. I truly believe you will go further than you ever imagined.
