Next up in our Global Voices of DUNE series is Tyler Stokes, a postdoctoral researcher at Yale University. There is never a dull moment for Tyler on the DUNE experiment and he loves how diverse and global DUNE is. When he isn't diving into the science, Tyler stays busy advocating for early-career researchers as an active Young DUNE representative.

DUNE in a bottle!

Given the complexity of building DUNE underground, we sometimes describe the construction of the experiment as “building a ship in a bottle.” And for good reason: the far detector modules are so large that they can’t simply be assembled on the surface and lowered a mile underground by crane. They have to be constructed underground, piece by piece.

So here’s a literal illustration of DUNE in a bottle—filled with sand!

When an international conference happens right next to a beach, this is the sort of fun creativity that our collaborators come up with 😄
