MCIO Head Start Grandparents Day at the Bastrop Center was held on today! As you view these pictures you can see that we had an overwhelming turnout and we enjoyed having them in our presence!

With this large turn out, children were excited and antsy so if they were not paying attention…just be mindful that they are three and four year old students! I did my absolute best to make sure I captured their moment while enjoying their special guest!

We sincerely hope you all enjoyed the barbecue chicken, potato salad, baked beans, fruit salad, rolls and milk!

Two winners of the youngest and oldest grandparents were awarded a special prize (gift card) as a token for participating in our celebration 🎉 on today!

Not intentional, but I missed two classes Rice/Mitchell class and Morrison/Winfield class! They were in the cafeteria eating lunch before I could get them!

Thank you for all you do!

These darling children are recipients of The Perfect Attendance Award for the month of September! Yes, they came to school every single day the doors opened just because they love MCIO Head Start.

We are encouraging children to attend every day just to see what opportunities we have to offer!

Congratulations lil future Doctors, Lawyers, Nurses, Engineers, Dentists, or whatever they desire to be in life! Just know that they were given a HEAD START from our program experiences!

MCIO Head Start (Oak Grove Campus) Grandparents Day was a success! Grandparents came out to eat lunch ….barbecue chicken, potato salad, baked beans, rolls, banana nut muffin, and milk with their little precious ones! They also did activities in the classroom with their grandchildren! The gift certificates are for the youngest and oldest grandparent present!

Just a few more pictures of our Proclamation Day! The MCIO Head Start bus is our Oak Grove students and staff leaving Bastrop to travel back to West Carroll Parish! We all are one big program located in two separate parishes with one purpose in mind, “Giving our students a HEAD START in life”

MCIO Head Start (Bastrop & Oak Grove Centers) observed our Head Start Awareness Month with Proclamation Day kicking it off! Head Start has been in existence for 60 years! Our Program has been around for 58 of those years and that is extraordinary. Mayor Mark Moore read the Proclamation while we had others on program to help us celebrate these 58 years.

Grandparents Day will be tomorrow, October 9th. Grandmothers will wear their favorite hat and the grandfathers will wear their favorite cap!

Fall Break will be October 12th - 16th.

Father’s Day will be Friday October 23rd. The theme is Dad In Plaid.

October 26th….Nerd or Color Orange Day
October 27th…. Favorite Sports
October 28th….Pink or Purple Day
October 29th….Camo or Red, White or Blue Day
October 30th….Fall Festival Activities with Favorite Disney Character!

Just a friendly reminder:

Bastrop MCIO Head Start Teachers will conduct Parent Teacher Conferences on tomorrow, October 2, 2026 at the Bastrop Campus!

Oak Grove MCIO Head Start Teachers will conduct Parent Teacher Conference on Friday, October 9, 2026.

Buses will not transport students as the children will not attend school.

Conference hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
