Spotted yesterday in Sandy Hook Bay: the magnificent Portuguese Navy tall ship NRP Sagres sailing New Jersey waters as part of the America 250 celebrations. Originally launched in 1937 and now serving as Portugal’s premier sail training vessel, Sagres is one of the world’s most beautiful tall ships. Not every day you see nearly 300 feet of maritime history cruising past the Jersey Shore!

AMERICA 250 Moment:
Put your politics aside - one is beautiful - and the other two are Jersey shameful. Why, New Jersey, did you not prepare? You knew 250 was coming - really, NJ, our stewards should be embarrassed and ashamed.

Great waterfront, tons of history, and the only remaining royal governor estate left in America - And while our host city is Basking Ridge, YES there are strong ties to this area and a man named Alexander aka Lord Stirling.

We love it when others get into the history of Jersey Diners - Well done! One of our favorites - their pancakes are awesome!
The Spinning Wheel Diner opened on Route 22 East between Lebanon and Whitehouse in the fall of 1965. It's had a few different owners and some MAJOR renovations over the years—the postcard below from the early 1970s looks nothing like the diner today. The first owners moved the diner from Hillsborough, where it is said to have been in business for about a year in 1964/65. Was this Park's Colonial Diner? Do you remember it? Where was it located in Hillsborough?
