‼️ELC Families: Please be aware of the closure past the library on 158th starting tomorrow.
🚧Starting Monday, March 9, construction will resume on the 158th and Parallel project🚧
We would like to thank the community for their continued patience with these road improvements, especially the property owners who live in the project area. Below are the updates.
-The signs are up to bring awareness to the motoring public of the upcoming construction and road closures. It is possible you may have seen the signs say construction will start on March 2. All signs have been updated to the correct date of March 9.
-From December of 2025 to now, the construction area has remained open to thru traffic. During this time, the general contractor for the job has reported several safety incidents, including vehicles nearly hitting the construction workers. We have made every effort to keep the roadway open during this final phase of the construction. However, repeated incidents of unsafe driving have placed the construction workers at significant risk. To ensure safety for everyone involved, the entire project area will remain closed to thru traffic for the duration of the project. We hope everyone agrees that a few months of a minor detour route is worth it in order to help prevent a serious safety incident.
-Property owners in the project area will still be able to access their homes, as local traffic will be allowed. Doorhangers will be provided to property owners in the construction area with additional information. These will be placed the week of March 2, 2026.
-The project is expected to be completed this summer.
-City Hall parking lot will be closed starting Monday, March 9 and will remain closed until Friday, March 27, weather permitting. City Hall will remain open during this time. Parking will be available at the Basehor Community Library. Visitors to City Hall should utilize the path between the Basehor Community Library and City Hall. The utility bill drop box will remain open during this time, but will only be accessible by parking at the Basehor Community Library, and then utilizing the path that connects the Library and City Hall. Any delinquent penalties for utility bills will be waved in the month of March. Any visitors to City Hall during this time that require special accommodations should contact City Hall staff at 913-724-1370 and then select option 8.
-First appearances scheduled for Municipal Court for March will be continued to April. You will receive communication from the Court Clerk. All other court cases scheduled for March with Municipal Court will proceed as scheduled. For questions regarding Municipal Court, please contact City Hall at 913-724-1370 and then select option 2.
-To promote continued safety, the sidewalks and trails in the project area will remain closed. When using trails and sidewalks, please observe all safety signs, and do not proceed on a sidewalk or trail beyond any signage indicating closures.
-As a reminder, the City received $5.1 million in grant funding from the Mid America Regional Council (MARC) for these improvements. These grant dollars were awarded through a competitive process.
Again, we would like to thank the community for their patience. Road construction is never fun to navigate – and we appreciate the community’s understanding that if we want nice roads, we occasionally will have to deal with the frustrations of road construction together.
