Little History Adventures

Another big history week. Rt 66 in Tulsa, learning about Bunk Pharaoh in Henryetta, interviewing members of the local doll club and then being interviewed today by KOCO reporter about history of oil in Bartlesville.

More history presentations: I spoke about the 14 Flags Over Oklahoma for the wives of the SAR in OKC. I have been busy portraying a schoolmarm in several locations.

A couple of weeks ago, I was a tour guide for my granddaughter’s history class. We toured several places concerning our local history.

In the last week, I have been a schoolmarm at Little House on the Prairie Museum. Next week will be at another museum, then back to LHOPM, then even another museum! My outfit is getting a workout!

Last week I portrayed Jane Phillips and told a story of how Frank brought Santa Claus to Bartlesville in 1938. The Lion’s Club was very gracious!

I portrayed Mrs. Claus to the Kane Elementary students this week. I told them a little bit about the real St. Nicholas, told them how to find out about the true story of Christmas, read “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, then handed out candy canes to each student. I spoke to 6 groups. I had a great time. The staff and students at Kane were great!

This week I portrayed a Colonial Maid as I spoke to the 8th graders at Wesleyan Christian School. I also told about my “grandmother’s” experience as a Pilgrim.

Today is National Code Talker Day, honoring the American Indian code talkers who served in the U.S. Military during World War I and World War II. Using their native languages to create secure communication channels, these individuals played a vital role in the success and ultimate victory in both conflicts.
