Congratulations to our very own Angela Ge**er! Wayside is very proud of you for being honored with this recognition!

It is with great pleasure that OKSL announces that Angela Ge**er, Librarian at Wayside Elementary in Bartlesville Public Schools, is the winner of the Rosen Publishing Oklahoma School Librarian of the Month for September 2026. The Rosen Oklahoma School Librarian of the Month is a new award that recognizes members of the Oklahoma School Librarian (OKSL), School Library Division of the Oklahoma Library Association, who provide outstanding service to their school community and the school library community.

Angela is being recognized for her innovative school book club, which combines a love of reading with meaningful community service. One example of this integration is her students’ volunteer work at a local animal shelter. She also incorporates family engagement into the book club, creating opportunities for students and their families to connect and learn together. Through these experiences, Angela helps students develop social skills, strengthen their love of reading, and understand the positive impact they can have on their community.

Established in 1950, the Rosen Publishing Group offers engaging print and digital books on a wide range of topics that are aligned with the curriculum. Rosen is also known for databases and interactive e-books.

This generous award includes a set of Rosen Publishing print titles for the winner’s school, as well as a year’s subscription to a Rosen database.

The Oklahoma school library community is fortunate to have a librarian of this caliber in our ranks.

Open House is tomorrow night!

Open House is this Thursday, September 3rd, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Students do NOT have to attend Open House. We will have two sessions that night so parents who have multiple children at Wayside can attend more than one session. We will begin both sessions in the gym with the following schedule:

5:20 PM: Parents attending Session 1 will enter the gym through Door B1 (SE corner of the campus).

5:30-5:40: Short welcome and introduction from Mr. Smith and Mrs. Birk for parents attending Session 1

5:45-6:15: Session 1 in the classrooms

6:05 PM: Parents just attending Session 2 will enter the gym through Door B1 (SE corner of the campus).

6:15-6:25: Short welcome and introduction from Mr. Smith and Mrs. Birk just for parents only attending Session 2

6:30-7:00: Session 2 in the classroom

7:00 PM: Everyone exits the building

*Parents attending only Session 1: Please make your way to the front of the building at the conclusion of Session 1 and exit the building through the main entrance.

**Parents attending both sessions: At the conclusion of Session 1, please walk to the location of your next session and wait in the hallway. Do not go in the classroom until the teacher opens their door.

Thank you, Bartlesville!

Preliminary results show that Bartlesville voters have endorsed the 2026 Bond election. The $40.5 million no tax rate increase bond will positively impact all Bruins and their future for years to come. Projects within the 2026 Bond will help the district expand learning opportunities, improve campuses, enhance security, and continue to make it possible for all students to graduate college, career, and life ready with a clear plan for the future.

"Thank you to everyone who participated in today's election and to our community for continuing to place your trust in BPS and invest in the future for our students,” said Superintendent Chancellor. “The passage of this bond is about much more than buildings and improvements. It is a commitment to our students. It says that our community believes our students deserve the very best opportunities to learn, grow and prepare for their futures. I am incredibly proud to be part of this community, and I am excited about what we can accomplish together. Thank you for believing in our kids."

School start times have been adjusted due to Senate Bill 1481, which doubles the required daily recess time for elementary students from 20 minutes to 40 minutes, effective next school year.
