A Little Background About Roxy’s American Girl Doll Book Club

Hi, I’m Roxy! What started as a love for American Girl dolls when I was 8 years old has grown into something I never could have imagined!

My American Girl journey began with Addy, my very first doll. But some of my favorite childhood memories happened right next door with my neighbor and best friend, Heather, who had Samantha. We would play, create stories, and have our own little American Girl adventures together.

And now, all these years later, that story has come full circle in the sweetest way. Heather recently passed her Samantha doll on to me so I could share her with another girl. Samantha is now living her best second life with another American Girl fanatic—and I absolutely love knowing that the magic continues!

Two years after getting Addy, I added my second doll, a look-alike doll, and my love for American Girl only continued to grow…my own two daughters combined had over 9 dolls that are now played with often at book club sessions!

In 2014, I turned that lifelong love (and a $1000 Northland Foundation Youth in Philanthropy Grant) into Roxy’s American Girl Doll Book Club, combining three things I absolutely love: American Girl, reading, and crafting!

Over the years, this little book club has grown into so much more than dolls and books. It’s about creating, reading, making memories, celebrating friendships, and giving kids a place to let their imaginations run wild.

One of the biggest highlights was being featured on WDIO’s The Lift in 2024, sharing our story and the magic behind Roxy’s American Girl Doll Book Club.

I feel incredibly lucky to get to share something I’ve loved since childhood with a whole new generation of girls—and hopefully create a few lifelong readers, crafters, and American Girl fans along the way!

From playing with Addy and Samantha next door as a kid, to creating a book club years later, summer camp, AG Reading Programs, to now passing those dolls and that love onto the next generation… I think little-kid Roxy would be pretty proud.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for… our GRAND PRIZE winner of Roxy’s American Girl Doll Summer Reading Program has been announced!

And what did she win?! The Doll of the Year — SUMMER!

But she didn’t just come to pick up her brand-new doll… she showed up in my office wearing a MATCHING TIE-DYED DRESS for the ultimate photo op!

I mean… COME ON. Could this be any more perfect?!

I absolutely love seeing how excited these girls get about reading, and getting to celebrate their hard work with something they’re truly excited about makes my heart so happy.

Congratulations, sweet girl! Summer has officially found her new best friend!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this summer’s reading program. You made it SO much fun! I’m already planning my challenges for NEXT summer!!

This summer, 8 girls from the Proctor Hermantown area joined me for our Summer Reading Program—and together they read an incredible 11,740+ minutes!

I am SO proud of every single one of our readers! Watching these girls make time for books, challenge themselves, and share their love of reading has been the absolute BEST.

Congratulations to our 2nd Place Winner!
She won an American Girl doll carrying case, a super cute unicorn outfit for her doll, the Lila book, AND a doll gymnastics set!

And I got the very lucky job of delivering the prizes right to our winner and her sister at home! There’s nothing better than getting to see those excited smiles in person!

Thank you to all 8 girls who participated and made this summer so special. Keep reading, keep dreaming, and keep turning those pages! Stay tuned for our grand prize winner coming soon!

A VERY SPECIAL BOOK CLUB SHOUTOUT!

Today, Roxy’s American Girl Doll Book Club is celebrating something extra special… my niece Brittni Warpula’s FIRST BOOK!

Honk’s Flock follows Honk, a curious little gosling who gets separated from home while chasing a bright blue dragonfly. Along his adventure, he meets ducks, goats, pigs, geese, and kind farm friends who help him discover that family isn’t always who you’re born with—it’s who welcomes you, cares for you, and loves you just as you are. 🪿

It’s a heartwarming story about belonging, bravery, friendship, and finding your way home—and I couldn’t be more proud to see Brittni’s imagination and heart become a real book that families can read together.

A little throwback Thursday to 2023 and one of the of so many sweet American Girl memories! Looking back at these pictures reminds me just how much fun we’ve ALWAYS had together—stories, crafts, dolls, giggles, adventures, and a whole lot of imagination!

So many memories made, and somehow we just keep making more.

HAPPY BOOK LOVERS DAY!

I grew up with Samantha, Molly, Felicity, Addy, Josefina, Kirsten, Kit and so many others—learning about friendship, courage, history, kindness, and finding our own stories along the way.

And now, at Roxy’s American Girl Doll Book Club, I get to watch a whole new generations discover that same magic.

Because reading is about so much more than learning words.
📚 Read TO kids.
📚 Read WITH kids.
📚 Read AROUND kids.

Let them see you get lost in a story. Snuggle up and read the same book for the hundredth time. Let them choose the book. Let them see that books are adventures, comfort, friendship, and imagination.

Because someday they may not remember every story you read together…but they’ll remember being beside you while you read it.

And maybe, years from now, they’ll open an old American Girl book and remember exactly what it felt like to be little.

Here’s to raising readers, dreamers, and lifelong book lovers.
